SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Lead Club Kids counselor is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the Club Kids Program at the school site (either Spring Hill or Waterbury). This position will be scheduled for: Mondays-Fridays, 3:15-6pm; 3-5 days preferred; 8-11 hours/week - hours could vary, with opportunity for more depending on need; hours may vary based on school schedule. $15.50/hour DOQ. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

An interest in working in the recreation industry with Park District participants. Must be 18 years of age or older. Preferred three years of experience in working with children. The ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, supervisors, and school officials. An ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations. Must be punctual and dependable. An understanding of the principles of customer service and client relations. An understanding of the principles of risk management and safety. A working knowledge of age characteristics and appropriate activities for children aged 5-12. Demonstrates ability to make good judgments and be aware of immediate surroundings. Strong interpersonal and communications skills. Must be self-motivated and responsible. Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions. Must be able to respond to and handle children's behaviors in a positive appropriate manner. CPR/First Aid certification required. Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work. Must be energetic and possess the ability to manage a group of participants in a manner that encourages social growth, safety and fun.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks : Ability to communicate effectively with parents, children, supervisors and school officials. Provide the program participants a safe and fun environment. Lead and manage daily operations of the program. Develops routine for each day of Club Kids with assistance from counselors. Maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations. Be polite and use a pleasant voice. Maintain and promote excellent customer service relations and open communication with children, parents, and other affiliates. Prepare reports as assigned. Reporting for duty as assigned and finding an appropriate substitute when necessary. Participating in all pre-employment and in-service training. Upholding and enforcing all risk management and safety goals and procedures. Enforcing safety rules and improving public and employee knowledge by confronting and correcting and preventing unsafe behavior. Demonstrating good judgement and/or special projects as assigned.
