Are you looking for a fun and enjoyable job? The Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for self-motivated and high energy individuals to fill several part-time positions for their lifeguard vacancies.

The recruitment is open on a continuous basis and may close at any time with or without prior notice. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply immediately. Selection of candidates will be on a first come, first served basis. As applications are received, they will be immediately reviewed. Candidates who clearly best meet or exceed the minimum qualifications will be invited to the testing process.

This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position with working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Recreation & Community Services Department. Candidates must be able to work all assigned shifts, which may include mornings, afternoons, evening shifts, and/or occasional weekends. Employee shall work up to 20 hours per week, limited up to 960 hours per fiscal year.

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard will ensure safe use of the pool, aquatic facility and general safety of children; supervise conduct of pool patrons; enforce swimming pool rules and respond to emergency situations as required; administer First Aid, CPR, and perform other lifesaving activities. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining and work safely with materials and equipment, maintain accurate files and records, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of professional lifesaving standards

Must possess the physical strength, endurance, and agility necessary to perform FIRST AID, CPR, and other related lifesaving activities.

Ability to actively perform safety duties; the safeguarding of individuals, public and property.

Ability to effectively interact with City staff, volunteers and the public; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Understanding and carrying out verbal and written instruction utilizing the English language.

Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and/or Mandarin is highly desirable.

Minimum qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years of age at time of submitting application; AND

Possession of the following American Red Cross certifications or the ability to obtain within 30 days from date of appointment:

• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers
• First Aid Certification
• Lifeguard Training Certificate

Applicants whose qualifications best meet or exceed the requirements and needs of the City, will be invited to participate further in the selection process. Copies of the required certifications must be submitted with the application. Possession of the minimum qualifications does not ensure continuing in the recruitment process. The selection process may include a written examination, a panel interview and other testing processes designated to predict successful job performance.
