The Job As a per diem Emergency Veterinarian, you are passionate about helping people and their pets, especially in their times of greatest need. You will be supported to become the best, most confident ER professional possible, with a culture rooted in mentorship and continuous learning—from on-the-floor guidance to VEG Education programs and unlimited ER-focused CE. You will handle emergencies ranging from routine cases to complex surgeries and treat a variety of patients, including exotics. As a hospital-floor leader, you will be part of a team and have resources that empower you to advance your career. What You’ll Do Answer medical questions over the phone See patients immediately as part of the VEG Triage and VEG Spikes, our customer-centered approach to care Gather signalment, presenting complaint, vitals, and physical exam findings Conduct physical examinations and other required investigative measures such as ultrasounds, X-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies Develop a diagnostic and therapeutic plan based on the pet's condition Communicate diagnosis and treatment options directly with customers Prepare estimates and present them to customers Create and review medical records to ensure accuracy Demonstrate the value of tests and treatments by addressing customer concerns Perform minor and major emergency surgeries Perform endoscopic procedures Educate customers on aftercare and preventive measures where appropriate What You Need A DVM or equivalent degree Live and breathe emergency medicine, including emergency surgery and endoscopy Thrive in team-oriented environments Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, work on the floor, and lift up to 25 kg on your own (with assistance up to 40 kg) Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with people from diverse backgrounds Who You Are Empathetic and people-centric, whether supporting colleagues or understanding different perspectives Humility, openness to feedback, and willingness to share credit and lift up your team Ownership mindset and commitment to long-term, impactful results Curious by nature, with a desire to learn and grow your skills How We Invest in You Competitive compensation Flexible work schedules to support life outside of work Generous referral reward program Perks such as comfortable scrubs, VEG swag, and food in the fridge when needed DEI At VEG, diversity is a strength that fuels innovation and kindness.
