Direct Support Professional - Syracuse, NY

Advocates is seeking a Mentor (DSP/1:1 support staff) to support a fun, outgoing, and very independent gentleman with a developmental disability. He and his family are looking for a Mentor to assist him with working on his goals both at home and in his community.

Goals include:

• Health and fitness/exercise - using the gym, swimming, fitness classes, walking, engaging in any exercise program or class, the YMCA, outdoor remedial hiking trails
• Communication and Social skills - making community connections and friendships and meeting peers in the community while learning how to be socially appropriate and reciprocate in conversations
• Independent living skills - grocery shopping, cooking, personal care tasks, ensuring a safe and clean environment
• Finding a volunteer position in his community - Learning how to safely navigate his phone, apps, and public transportation

Seeking a DSP who is experienced, reliable, enthusiastic, creative, and active. If you are into the gym, this is a plus! Related experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred but not required. Please respond with resume or summary of experience.

Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when electronically logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation. DSP must have a valid email address. Hours and days of work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (10 AM - 2 PM). Start time and hours can be flexible.

Full-time opportunities may be available.

Pay rate: $21-$23 per hour when providing direct support. Rate depends on experience. The hourly rate for indirect/training is $16.00 per hour.
