Registered Respiratory Therapist NICU TEMP

Position Overview St. David's Medical Center, a full-service hospital in central Austin and part of St. David's HealthCare, is seeking a skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a temporary assignment in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Responsibilities In this NICU TEMP role, you will provide specialized respiratory care to premature and critically ill newborns, working closely with neonatologists, NICU nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be responsible for performing comprehensive respiratory assessments, implementing and adjusting ventilator and non-invasive respiratory support, monitoring patient response, and delivering evidence-based therapies to support optimal cardiopulmonary function. You will participate in high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitations, ensuring rapid, coordinated response to changing clinical conditions. The Registered Respiratory Therapist NICU TEMP will manage complex respiratory modalities including conventional and high-frequency ventilation, CPAP and BiPAP, oxygen and nitric oxide therapy, and aerosolized medication delivery. You will obtain and interpret arterial blood gases and other diagnostic data, collaborate in developing individualized care plans, and provide accurate documentation in the electronic medical record. In addition, you will work to promote a safe, healing environment by adhering to strict infection prevention and equipment safety standards. As a key contributor to our NICU team, you will be expected to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and ancillary departments, taking part in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences. You will support and educate families on respiratory conditions, therapies, and equipment, helping them understand their infant’s care plan and progress.
