Section Chief - Nuclear Medicine And Molecular Imaging (tenure)

University of Wisconsin

Current Employees: If you are currently employed at any of the Universities of Wisconsin, log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process.

Job Category: Faculty

Employment Type: Regular

Job Profile: Associate Professor

Job Summary:
The Department of Radiology offers a unique opportunity and is seeking a senior-level physician-scientist with interest in leading the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Section. The successful applicant will be a respected physician-scientist with a distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and research. The successful applicant will report to the Chair in the Department of Radiology.

The University of Wisconsin Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Section is composed of experts in multiple areas including general nuclear medicine and PET imaging, theranostics, nuclear cardiology, PET/ MR, prostate cancer imaging and therapy, and the imaging and treatment of patients with thyroid cancer. Therapies in patients with various forms of cancer are routinely performed with unsealed sources, such as radioactive iodine in patient with thyroid disease and 177-Lu DOTATATE for patients with neuroendocrine tumors. The section is part of a major expansion of the UW theranostics program using both clinically approved and investigational agents. This is a growing area with state-of-the-art imaging equipment including PET/CT, PET/MR and SPECT/ CT. The section leads both a nuclear medicine residency and a PET/molecular imaging fellowship program.

The UW Department of Radiology consists of more than 165 faculty across 12 sections, reading over 1,000,000 diagnostic scans per year. We train more than 50 residents and fellows per year and have an extensive presence throughout the medical student curriculum. The Department of Radiology benefits from strong collaborations with the Department of Medical Physics and Department of Radiation Medicine, and together the two share over 70,000 square ft. of facilities within the Wisconsin Institutes of Medical Research, including over $30 million of state-of-the-art equipment in PET, CT, MR, angiography, ultrasound and PACS. Nuclear medicine faculty rotate at both the University Hospital and the Eastpark Medical Center (EMC). EMC boasts five new theranostics treatment rooms, a new PET scanner, and a new SPECT/CT scanner. The Department is also home to several services dedicated to supporting our researchers, including the cutting-edge Radiopharmaceutical Production Facility (RPF) and the Medical Imaging Research Services core, which provides extensive regulatory, grant administration, technical consultation, and image analysis services.
  • This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
  • Applicants who are interested in pursuing an academic career in the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging section will be considered for the titles listed: Associate or Full Professor on the Tenure Track. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
Companion posting:

This vacancy is being announced simultaneously with JR#10007051; please note that only one vacancy exists. Having two job postings allows the School of Medicine and Public Health to consider applicants with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure track faculty credentials for this position.

Key Job Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will have leadership experience and an interest in leading the section as the Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Section Chief, and join a world-class institution that encourages, values, and supports innovation and translation of our discoveries into clinical practice.

Clinical duties will include performing and interpreting the clinical nuclear medicine PET and Nuclear Cardiology studies and evaluating and treating radiotheranostic patients with a high level of excellence.

Department:

The UW Department of Radiology provides excellence in patient care in an environment that is respectful of others, adaptive to change, accountable for outcomes, and attentive to the needs of underserved populations. We are dedicated to sharing our clinical expertise through regional outreach to the people of Wisconsin and their healthcare providers. We provide an environment for education of our trainees, staff, and healthcare professionals through scholarly conferences and continuing education programs. We improve human health by developing innovative imaging technology through basic and translational research in collaboration with colleagues at UW-Madison and beyond. We support the Wisconsin Idea to improve people's lives beyond our walls by collaborating with industry to translate modern technology into daily clinical practice. We support the economic development of Wisconsin and the financial wellbeing of UW Health. We recruit and develop dedicated faculty and health professionals who inspire their co-workers and students towards lifelong learning, research discovery, service to their community and clinical excellence.

Madison's technology economy is growing rapidly, and the region is home to the headquarters of Epic Systems, Exact Sciences, Sub-Zero, and Land's End, as well as many biotech, healthcare IT, and health systems startups. In the Fall of 2023, Wisconsin was designated as a Tech Hub by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), which resulted in a grant award of up to $75 million to help accelerate growth of the state's bio health industry. Phase 2 of the Wisconsin Biotech hub was announced in July 2024, resulting in $49 million in additional funding to help drive transformative medical innovation, workforce development and critical job growth across Wisconsin. One of the three technology projects of this proposal is the Wisconsin Health Data Hub, led by researchers from the University of Wisconsin, School of Medicine and Public Health.

Madison is the second largest city in the state, with a city population of approximately 260,000 and regional population of over 1 million.
