Posting Details Posting Number: S15451P | Working Title: IT Manager | Department: CED-Information Technology | Location: Athens Area | Employment Type: Full Time | Salary: Commensurate with Experience | Opening Date: 07/15/2026 | Closing Date: Until Filled | Proposed Start Date: 09/01/2026 Position Summary The IT Director serves as the senior technology leader for the College of Environment and Design (CED), providing strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight for all information technology resources, services, and technology‑enabled learning environments. The position is responsible for developing and implementing technology strategies that support the College’s missions of instruction, research, outreach, and administration. The IT Director oversees technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, classroom and studio technologies, technical support services, software and hardware procurement, digital innovation initiatives, and technology budgeting. The position collaborates closely with faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and Enterprise Information Technology Services (EITS) to ensure technology resources are secure, reliable, innovative, and aligned with institutional priorities. The IT Director also serves as a key liaison for technology planning associated with the College’s unique instructional and research‑focused environments, including design studios, fabrication spaces, laboratories, visualization technologies, and collaborative learning spaces. Responsibilities Strategic Technology Leadership Develop and implement the College’s short‑term and long‑term technology strategy. Align technology investments with instructional, research, outreach, and administrative priorities. Identify opportunities for innovation and digital transformation. Serve as the principal technology advisor to College leadership. Represent the College on university technology committees and initiatives. Monitor technology‑related risks and implement mitigation strategies. Lead special projects involving technology modernization, facility improvements, and facility manager coordination. IT Operations and Infrastructure Management Direct and oversee daily IT operations and service delivery. Ensure reliability, security, and performance of technology infrastructure. Coordinate support for servers, storage systems, networking, cloud services, and endpoint devices. Develop and maintain disaster‑recovery and business‑continuity plans. Ensure compliance with university cybersecurity standards, inventory, and removal of equipment policies. Serve as the College liaison to EITS on security and compliance matters. Develop IT‑related reports, policies, and procedures and provide timely updates and communications. User Support and Customer Service Lead delivery of technical support services for faculty, staff, and students. Establish service standards and performance metrics. Oversee help‑desk operations, set priorities, and issue escalation processes. Promote a culture of responsive and proactive customer service. Direct and oversee additional CED support, as needed. Technology Support Ensure effective operation of classroom, studio, instructional and research areas, laboratory, office, and presentation technologies. Support technologies used for instruction, online learning, research, and staff operations. Collaborate with faculty on technology solutions that enhance teaching, learning, and research. Provide resources, training, and clear communication for faculty, staff, and students. Evaluate emerging technologies relevant to landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban planning, environmental design, GIS, visualization, and digital fabrication. Personnel Management and Professional Development Supervise IT staff and student employees. Establish goals, evaluate performance, and provide professional development opportunities. Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts. Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture. Budgeting, Procurement, and Asset Management Develop and manage technology budgets. Coordinate procurement of hardware, software, licenses, and technology services. Oversee technology inventory and lifecycle replacement planning. Ensure effective stewardship of College technology resources. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience, including 3 years of supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Higher Education Administration, or a related field. Experience managing IT operations within higher education. Experience supporting specialized design software, GIS, visualization technologies, CAD/BIM applications, digital fabrication technologies, and high‑performance computing environments. Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, and project management. Professional certifications such as PMP, CISSP, ITIL, Microsoft, AWS, or equivalent. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise technology infrastructure, networking, servers, cloud services, and cybersecurity. Experience managing Windows, macOS, and mobile device ecosystems. Knowledge of classroom technology, audiovisual systems, and instructional technology platforms. Strong project management and organizational leadership skills. Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and develop implementation strategies. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals possessing varying levels of technical expertise. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and collaborative leadership. Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects simultaneously. Physical Demands Work primarily in an office environment with extended periods of computer use. Ability to move between buildings and instructional spaces across campus. Ability to occasionally lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to access classrooms, laboratories, and equipment rooms as needed.
