Health & Safety Specialist – Costa Mesa, CA (req2084) Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to support diverse project teams in environmental and site characterization projects across the West region. This full‑time position is based in the Costa Mesa, CA office, with majority local field activities in Carson and Wilmington. Travel up to 50% of the time across the West region, including Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii. Responsibilities Act as a key influencer to continuously improve health & safety (H&S) culture and serve as a valued partner for client services. Perform risk assessments and project planning, develop, review, monitor, and improve Site‑Specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and other task‑specific safety documents. Use H&S software, equipment, and technical tools, and train others. Identify unsafe work practices, suggest countermeasures, and coach teams. Ensure project teams have necessary H&S tools, training, and knowledge. Oversee compliance with client‑specific H&S programs; partner in project planning and delivery. Document safety observations, incidents, injuries, and near‑misses; resolve H&S concerns. Conduct site audits, track corrective actions to closure. Deliver H&S training, including monthly, onboarding, and client‑specific sessions. Qualifications B.S. in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline; equivalent experience considered. At least 5 years of consulting experience supporting HAZWOPER emergency environmental and site characterization projects for energy and industrial manufacturing clients. Professional registrations and certifications (CHMM, CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST, etc.) preferred. Strong commitment to compliance with company and client H&S protocols. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable government regulations, industrial hygiene, and company policies. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Emotional intelligence and collaborative mindset for team engagement. Fit for duty for multiple sites and activities, including outdoor work, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, kneeling, walking, drug & alcohol test, and respirator use. Preferred Skills Experience providing H&S support for large‑scale environmental projects. Familiarity with contaminated site management, characterization, and remediation field activities. Self‑directed, able to prioritize multiple tasks and projects. Use emotional intelligence to resolve project‑related concerns. Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships and promoting safety culture. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Salary The salary range for this position in Costa Mesa, CA is $85,000 – $120,000 annually, based on education, experience, certifications, skills, and market conditions.
