Mechanical Engineer - Water/wastewater

Date: May 19, 2026 Location: Overland Park, KS, US Company: Black & Veatch Family of Companies The Opportunity Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical systems in water treatment and wastewater projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad Perform Mechanical System design for water/wastewater projects Perform engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for sizing equipment Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions Follow company and industry design practices in development of designs Develop engineering work products including Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), Mechanical arrangement drawings, and Equipment, Piping, and Valve specifications Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with B&V criteria The Team The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team delivering high‑quality design and services across sectors including water and wastewater. The Water/Wastewater Treatment team provides comprehensive solutions for drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, recycled water, and residuals. Preferred Qualifications Developing detailed project drawings and technical specifications Experience with equipment and systems used in water and wastewater treatment facilities, including: Pumping systems, blowers, aeration control valves, compressed air systems for pneumatic actuators, large bubble mixing, anaerobic digestion, heating water boilers, heat exchangers, and steel piping systems Material selection and sizing of piping systems and equipment Hydraulic principles related to water/wastewater facility design Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience Minimum of 5 years related work experience Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and ability to support where necessary Certifications Active engineering registration or licensure for EOR requirements in applicable countries, and ability to support where necessary.
