Computational Genomics Research Scientist

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a computational genomics scientist to analyze complex sequencing data supporting cell and gene therapy development. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional research teams to design studies, perform genomic analyses including bulk RNA-seq and single-cell profiling, and translate findings into actionable biological insights.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with research teams to identify scientific questions addressable through genomics and bioinformatics approaches
• Lead spatial transcriptomics method development and implementation across teams and sites
• Analyze and integrate diverse genomic datasets including bulk RNA-seq, single-cell profiling, and multiomic data
• Perform computational analyses with statistical rigor and create data visualizations to support biological discovery
• Author study reports and technical documentation; maintain reproducible, version-controlled analytical workflows

Requirements

• Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, or related quantitative field; or Master's with 3+ years industry experience
• Demonstrated expertise in single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics analysis and interpretation
• Proficiency in Python and/or R for scientific computing and data analysis
• Experience with Linux-based high-performance computing or cloud computing environments
• Strong foundation in statistics, experimental design, and reproducible computational research
• Proven ability to derive biological insights from complex datasets and communicate findings to multidisciplinary teams

Compensation: $112,000 - $168,000 base
