Job Description This position is a leader in the provision of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The RN effectively delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; demonstrates sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity in all interactions; maintains involvement in activities aimed toward achieving unit and department strategic goals; and supports Ochsner’s philosophy of nursing. Education Required: Registered Nurse Diploma Preferred: Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Work Experience Required: None Certifications Current RN license in the state of practice (required) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association Certification in Clinical Specialty Area (preferred) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role and keyboard Strong interpersonal skills Good organizational skills Good time management skills and self‑directed Demonstrates good judgment Job Duties Effectively uses the Nursing Process in the delivery of patient care Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for diverse patient, family, and interdisciplinary group needs Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) properly and serves as a leader and partner on the Interdisciplinary Team Utilizes data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction and employee morale and improve the profession of nursing Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, proper introduction, adaptation of explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and appropriate communication style Other Related Duties Other duties may be added or amended at any time. Physical and Environmental Demands The physical demands include lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25 to 50 pounds frequently, and 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. The job requires walking or standing, sitting for long periods with occasional pushing or pulling, and working at a production pace. Duties performed routinely include exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue; direct patient contact; and handling specimens that may contain communicable diseases.
