Administrative Intern – Engineering The City of Ontario invites engineering students to join our team as an Administrative Intern for the Engineering Department. This part‑time role offers hands‑on experience across a variety of civil engineering projects, from commercial and industrial development to transportation and environmental programs. Essential Functions Assist the Engineering Counter, interacting directly with customers. Support department staff with basic administrative and technical tasks. Utilize GIS for data analysis and infrastructure mapping. Operate personal computers, printers, and office equipment. Conduct research and preliminary administrative analysis. Perform field work, including photo documentation of construction sites, storm drains, and streets. Review and summarize publications and documents. Compose and edit correspondence, memorandums, reports, and other assignments. Gather and tabulate data. Respond to public information requests. Prepare files for storage. Assist with special projects and events. Support the review and processing of encroachment, traffic control permits, environmental inspection reports, and conditional use permits. Coordinate permit activities with other City departments. Assist with basic AutoCAD drafting. Qualifications Completed at least 2 years of college coursework in Civil Engineering or a related field. Knowledge of basic civil engineering principles. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Ability to compile, organize, and analyze data, producing reports and spreadsheets. For those assigned to the Municipal Utilities Company, familiarity with hydraulics, pipe design, and utility operations is preferred. Valid California Class C driver’s license. Desirable Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification. Work Schedule Part‑time/temporary; up to 29 hours per week. Employees are not eligible for the City’s health insurance or retirement plans.
