Retirement System Counselor I Pay Grade: 12 Salary: $4,017.66 monthly Employment Type: Executive Branch, Full Time, Eligible for Overtime Pay, 18A, 37.5 Hours/Week Location 1260 Louisville Road Frankfort, KY 40601 USA About the Agency Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) is responsible for the investment of funds and administration of pension and health insurance benefits for nearly 444,000 state and local government employees, state police officers, and non‑teaching staff of local school boards and regional universities. The Division of Disability and Survivor Benefits provides services to Kentucky Employees Retirement Systems (KERS), County Employees Retirement System (CERS), and the State Police Retirement System (SPRS). Key Responsibilities Counsel members by phone and in office on various disability retirement subjects such as eligibility, application process, medical and employment reviews, tax withholding, reemployment laws, direct deposit, and post‑retirement calculations. Prepare and explain retirement calculations to members and beneficiaries. Communicate with members, agencies, and other representatives by phone and in writing to ensure timely benefit eligibility determination and processing of benefits. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong listening and communication skills Able to apply basic mathematical skills Attention to detail Strong organizational skills Time management Minimum Requirements Education: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree. Experience, Training, or Skills: None. Substitute Experience for Education: Experience in public or business administration, accounting, wage and/or claims reporting, investigations or auditing will substitute for the education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis. Administrative and/or clerical experience in Kentucky Public Pensions Authority will substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
