Job Description

This role focuses on the fabrication of low and medium voltage electrical switchgear cabinets, transforming raw materials into high-quality components that meet customer specifications. You will interpret blueprints, perform precise cutting and forming operations, and use a variety of hand and power tools to prepare materials for subsequent manufacturing stages.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate low and medium voltage electrical switchgear cabinets according to blueprints and customer specifications.
• Process various types of steel, including cold rolled, galvanized, stainless, and other specified materials.
• Recognize and correctly identify copper and steel thicknesses and gauges for appropriate processing.
• Cut copper and sheet steel using a shear (48 x 96) while maintaining accuracy and safety.
• Operate forming machinery such as hydraulic brake presses (including models 50/50 and B130) to bend copper and steel to required dimensions.
• Operate shearing machinery for glastic and steel, including hydraulic shears and Cincinnati shears.
• Punch holes in copper and steel using equipment such as the 20/20, Boschert CU-PROFI, and Stripit 750.
• Wash, dry, and prepare steel parts for painting, ensuring surfaces are properly cleaned and ready for finishing.
• Deburr and grind steel parts using hand tools to remove sharp edges and achieve required finishes.
• Use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, saws, and grinders safely and effectively as part of daily fabrication tasks.
• Follow control document procedures and adhere to established fabrication and quality standards.
• Ensure proper personal protective equipment is worn at all times and that tools and equipment are used correctly for each task.
• Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, leadership, and support resources, with a strong commitment to teamwork and customer service.
• Attend work regularly in person, as on-site presence is essential to perform fabrication duties and support production schedules.
• Take direction, follow instructions, and collaborate effectively with others to meet production goals.
• Communicate clearly in English to support activities such as participating in department huddles, collaborating with engineers and project leaders, and coordinating tasks with team members.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience as a fabricator working with press brakes, shop equipment, and hand and power tools.
• Hands-on experience with washing steel parts as part of the fabrication and finishing process.
• Experience with grinding and deburring steel components to remove burrs and sharp edges.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings to fabricate parts accurately.
• Ability to convert fractions to decimal equivalents and decimals to fractions for precise measurements.
• Basic computer skills to support production and documentation activities.
• Ability to read, write, and converse fluently in English at a level sufficient to perform job duties that require clear communication, such as participating in department discussions and collaborating with technical staff.
• Demonstrated teamwork, reliability, and strong attendance.
• Willingness to take direction, follow instructions, and maintain a positive attitude in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma or technical school education preferred but not required.
• Experience operating hydraulic brake presses, including models similar to 50/50 and B130.
• Experience operating hydraulic shears and Cincinnati shear equipment.
• Familiarity with punching equipment such as 20/20, Boschert CU-PROFI, and Stripit 750.
• Experience working with materials such as cold rolled steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, copper, and similar metals.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a clean, modern, and medium-sized manufacturing facility with approximately 60 employees. The site manages the full production process from start to finish, including fabrication, welding, wiring, and assembly of electrical switchgear products. The facility is designed for comfort, with controlled and comfortable temperatures to support year-round productivity. You will work around a variety of fabrication equipment, including hydraulic brake presses, hydraulic and Cincinnati shears, punching machines, saws, grinders, and other shop equipment, as well as hand and power tools. The environment is structured and safety-focused, with required use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to documented procedures. Work is performed on-site, with regular in-person attendance necessary to support production operations and collaboration with the fabrication, welding, wiring, and assembly teams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Franklin Park, IL.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.97/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
