Senior Scientist, Chemical Process Development

Biogen seeks a Senior Scientist for Chemical Process Development in Cambridge, MA to design and optimize scalable batch and continuous manufacturing processes for active pharmaceutical ingredients. The role combines hands-on laboratory work, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to advance green and cost-effective chemical processes.

Responsibilities

• Conduct experiments, analyze data, and write reports and standard operating procedures
• Design chemical experiments and develop scalable processes through data interpretation and mechanistic modeling
• Mentor junior scientists and collaborate externally to advance process development
• Support technology transfer to contract development and manufacturing organizations
• Manage laboratory equipment, instrumentation maintenance, and repair coordination

Requirements

• PhD in Chemistry with 4+ years industry experience, or MS with thesis and 5+ years, or BS and 7+ years
• Hands-on laboratory experience in chemical synthesis, isolation, and separation processes
• Proficiency with analytical instrumentation and data acquisition from laboratory reactor systems
• Experience with contract manufacturing facilities and technical transfer management
• Background in chemical synthesis and familiarity with plant unit operations
• Track record of scientific publications and conference presentations
• Experience reviewing batch records and cGMP-related technical documentation

Compensation: $138,000–$184,500 base
