Senior Associate Scientist, Biologics Downstream Process Development

Asimov seeks a Senior Associate Scientist in Biologics Downstream Process Development to lead bioprocess engineering and purification strategy for mammalian biologics and gene therapies. The role combines hands-on lab work with cross-functional leadership, scaling processes from bench to manufacturing and coordinating technology transfer to external partners.
Responsibilities
- Conduct downstream processing, clarification, purification, and quality assessment of biologics using analytical tools
- Lead hands-on bioreactor scale-up projects (2L+) and downstream process development from harvest through final purification
- Serve as technical subject matter expert for at-scale process development across internal and external initiatives
- Partner with cross-functional teams to represent process development on strategic projects and communicate technical results and timelines
- Author, review, and approve process development reports; organize and document experiments in electronic lab notebooks
Requirements
- Master's degree in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, or related field plus 4+ years hands-on bioprocessing experience, or Bachelor's plus 6+ years industry experience
- Demonstrated expertise in downstream purification, ProA chromatography, and ultrafiltration/diafiltration operations
- Proficiency with automated chromatography systems and software such as AKTA or UNICORN HMI
- Hands-on experience with mammalian CHO and/or viral vector process development
- Strong spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets; experience with Spotfire, scripting, or BigQuery preferred
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments software and standardized bioprocess workflows
- Knowledge of manufacturing technology transfer and GLP toxicology material generation preferred
