ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Is familiar with and performs the Head Start Standards.

• Completes a variety of clerical duties in support of program activities, such as preparing, typing, copying, and filing.

• Provides and maintains a safe and healthy Head Start environment.


• Maintains office security by following safety policies & procedures and controlling access via the reception desk.

• Completes material Requisitions as instructed by the Director


• Collaborates with all Head Start Staff and assists them as needed.

• Facilitates activities for the Teacher, arranges equipment and materials in the classroom.

• Cooperates with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children.

• Answers, screens, and forwards incoming phone calls.

• Assists with breakfast, lunch, snacks, and any other meals as necessary by eating with and assisting children in the development of social and self-help skills and sound nutritional practices using family-style dining;

• Maintains established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments;

• Maintains cost control, budget, and inventory systems based on CAFCP procedures, including records of food service and attendance.

• Performs a variety of educational techniques.

• Demonstrate the ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

• Acts as a bus monitor for children's pick-up and/or drop-off, if needed.

• Other duties may be required.

• Is required by the State of Arizona, the Office of Head Start, and the Cocopah Tribal Social Services to be a mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and Head Start educational methods.

• Experience working in a team setting and excellent communication and instructional skills.

• Demonstrate effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.


• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, families, and staff of Head Start; be discreet in dealing with parents and educational personnel.

• Computer and office skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, telephone, & copier

• Must be able to travel and must be able to enter and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.

• Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.

• Must be able to lift a minimum of 55 pounds.

• Become familiar with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms.

• Experience working with a culturally diverse staff and clients.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.

• Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

• Job requires standing for long periods, as well as stooping, squatting, and running; a moderate amount of driving is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Personal qualifications: emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the aims of the program, respect for children and adults.


• Flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health that do not interfere with the job responsibilities

• Valid Arizona Driver's License and proof of vehicle liability insurance

• Minimum of 21 years old

• Must have a current Health Card

• First Aid/CPR certification preferred, or certification must be obtained after employment

• Must be able to pass T.B. skin testing, X-ray, and yearly physical examination

• Must be able to undergo and pass a DPS/FBI fingerprint background investigation and cannot have two (2) or more misdemeanors or felony convictions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED is required.


• 1- 2 years' work or documented volunteer experience in a clerical or administrative support position, or Experience working with children is desired.
