Security Benefit Life Insurance Company (SBLIC) and Security Benefit Life Holdings (SBLH) are closely held, private entities with a debt-only investor base — bondholders and rating agencies, rather than public equity markets — and this role is the primary architect of how that story is told externally.This is a build-and-grow role. The investor relations function today is early-stage, with significant room to establish process, cadence, and infrastructure where limited precedent exists. The initial mandate centers on investor relations and rating agency engagement, with the expectation that scope will expand over time — potentially into capital markets strategy, debt issuance and program management, corporate strategy support, or other adjacent areas — as the function matures and business needs require.This role partners closely with the CFO/CIO, Treasury, Actuarial, and Legal to ensure consistent, accurate, and well-timed communication with external stakeholders. This is a highly visible role with direct exposure to the CFO/CIO, senior leadership, and external counterparties including rating agencies, investment banks, and institutional investors.The Head of Investor Relations, Vice President position reports to the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer and can be based out of our office in Topeka or Overland Park, Kansas, Des Moines, Iowa, or remotely for the right candidate. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.Investor RelationsOwn and mature the investor communications function, including the investor calls calendar, roadshows, and ad hoc investor outreachDraft and coordinate investor call scripts, materials, and supporting analytics in partnership with FP&A and ActuarialServe as a primary point of contact for bondholders and prospective investors, fielding inquiries and coordinating responsesBuild out a repeatable process and document library for recurring investor deliverables, moving the function from ad hoc to institutionalizedMaintain a consistent external narrative across all investor-facing materials, aligned with messaging set by the CFO/CIOSupport conference presentations and roadshow logistics (e.g., banking conferences, credit investor days)Travel as needed to support roadshows, investor conferences, and rating agency meetingsRating Agency ManagementLead day-to-day rating agency relationship management (e.g., AM Best, Fitch, S&P), including annual review preparation, ad hoc data requests, and follow-up on rating actionsOwn meeting preparation, materials development, and presentation strategy for rating agency engagements; co-present alongside the CFO/CIO at key meetingsTrack rating agency methodology changes and assess implications for capital and issuance strategyCross-Functional Coordination & Strategic ProjectsPartner with FP&A, Treasury, Actuarial, and Legal to ensure investor and rating agency materials are accurate, consistent, and delivered on schedulePartner closely with Legal and Compliance on the review and release of external financial communications, ensuring adherence to MNPI and selective disclosure protocolsSupport the CFO/CIO in preparing board-level materials related to capital markets strategy and financing decisionsTake on ad hoc strategic projects for the CFO/CIO as priorities evolve — the scope of this role is expected to grow into adjacent areas (capital management, debt capital markets, corporate strategy, or other initiatives) as the function matures and business needs requireWhat We’re Looking For:7-10+ years of experience in investor relations, corporate treasury, capital markets, or a related finance function, ideally within insurance, financial services, or a rated issuerFamiliarity with insurance rating agency processes (AM Best, Moody's, S&P, or Fitch) a plusStrong financial and analytical skills; comfort with statutory and GAAP financial statementsExcellent written communication skills; ability to translate complex financial information into clear investor-facing narrativesBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or CFA a plusKey Skills & CapabilitiesComfort building a function with limited precedent — able to design process and structure from a near-blank slate rather than optimize an existing oneExecutive presence sufficient to co-present alongside the CFO/CIO in rating agency and board-level settingsAbility to manage multiple external counterparties (banks, agencies, investors) and internal stakeholders simultaneouslyComfort with an evolving mandate — willingness and ability to take on new areas of scope as the role and function developSound judgment operating with two senior reporting relationships (CFO and CIO), including knowing when and how to align both before external commitmentsWhy Choose Security Benefit?When you join our team, you’re not just getting a paycheck — you’re getting a career path full of growth opportunities, plus a robust benefits package that puts your well-being first.
