UNIT COORDINATOR - NURSING

St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children Show Map Location 29-01 216th Street,Bayside, NY, 11360,United States Base Pay $24.5 - $25.81 / Hour Job Category Administrative Employee Type Full Time Non-Exempt Manage Others No The Unit Coordinator is an integral member of the unit team, interacting with all health care providers, patients and families to promote a positive, friendly, well-organized environment on the nursing unit. Participates in activities that directly relate to the general work flow and operations on the unit. Supports Hospital's mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assures the medical record is efficiently maintained according to regulatory standards.
  2. Prepares the patient record prior to admission. Greets the patient and family and escorts them to the unit. Orients family/patient to unit and staff. Labels patient’s bed and room.
  3. Accurately transcribes weekly heights and weights on data sheet.
  4. Consistently performs a chart audit to assure all paperwork is completed by specified disciplines every two weeks to prepare for final coding and filing. Contacts disciplines to complete chart. Closes chart according to the standard checklist.
  5. Monitors unit patient care and clerical supplies and orders on a weekly and as needed basis. Stocks all supplies appropriately on shelves.
  6. Coordinates the scheduling of all clinical appointments to outside facilities with the Social Work Department and assists when necessary. Notifies the Nurse Manager of all appointments.
  7. Prepares packet for clinic appointments.
  8. Transfers broken equipment to proper location, Tags equipment with proper tag, and logs information in communication book. Notifies Materials Management Department via email/phone.
  9. Facilitates in-house bed transfers.
  10. Runs errands within the facility, when necessary, to expedite tasks.
  11. Assists with the preparation of children's laundry and coordinates with the CCT/CNA to pick up clothing as needed.
  12. Promptly and courteously answers the telephone, routing calls and taking messages.
  13. Distributes memos, letters, and emails to other disciplines in an efficient and effective manner.
  14. Copies documentation for emergency transfer of a patient to an acute care facility.
  15. Interacts appropriately with children and their family members. Provides assistance to nursing staff.
  16. Works collaboratively with manager, supervisor and director to analyze personal work processes and makes suggestions for improvement.
  17. Processes all consult requests to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
Requirements Formal education required: High school/GED diploma BLS required One year clerical experience in health care a plus. Basic knowledge of computers. Good interpersonal communication skills.
