Position Summary
The Pediatrician with Medical Director Responsibilities provides comprehensive outpatient pediatric care while serving as the clinical leader for the clinic(s) medical services. Approximately 90-95% of the role is dedicated to direct patient care, with 3 hours per week allocated to clinical leadership, quality oversight, provider support, and pediatric program development.
This position offers the opportunity to practice in a large, integrated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving an underserved population while helping shape the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based pediatric care across the organization.
Essential Duties
Direct Patient Care (Primary Responsibility)
- Provide comprehensive outpatient pediatric care for infants, children, and adolescents.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Perform preventive care services, including well-child examinations, immunizations, and developmental screenings.
- Coordinate care with specialists, behavioral health providers, schools, and community resources as appropriate.
- Ensure continuity of care through coordination with JPCHC's multidisciplinary care teams.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record.
- Participate in an equitable after-hours call rotation.
Pediatric Clinical Leadership (3 Hours Weekly)
- Serve as the physician leader for all clinical services.
- Provide clinical guidance and consultation to the providers and care teams.
- Support onboarding, mentoring, and clinical development of providers and staff.
- Promote adherence to evidence-based guidelines, clinical workflows, and organizational policies in alignment with the recommendations from the clinical councils and the Chief Medical Officer.
- Partner with nursing, quality, and operational leaders to improve care delivery and patient outcomes.
- Participate in the development and review of clinical policies, protocols, and workflows.
Quality Improvement & Performance Oversight
- Review the clinic(s) quality metrics and support initiatives to improve outcomes.
- Participate in peer review, chart review, and quality assurance activities as assigned.
- Support achievement of HRSA, UDS, payer, and organizational quality goals related to pediatric populations.
- Assist with patient safety initiatives, risk management activities, and corrective action planning when needed.
- Serve as a resource for clinical questions and best practices related to patient care.
Collaboration & Community Engagement
- Foster collaboration among providers, behavioral health, dental, nursing, and support services.
- Participate in outreach, community health initiatives, and advocacy efforts that advance child health.
- Represent the clinic(s) in organizational committees or meetings as assigned.
- Support JPCHC's mission of providing accessible, inclusive, and compassionate care to underserved communities.
Qualifications
Education
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program.
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, or related field preferred but not required.
Certifications/Licensure
- Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of employment.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP); Board Certification preferred.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration and authority to prescribe controlled substances, as applicable.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
- Demonstrated qualifications and experience sufficient to fulfill Medical Director responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulatory and organizational requirements.
Experience
- Leadership Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive revenue cycle experience, with at least 5 years in a director-level or senior leadership role within a healthcare system.
- Large-Scale Operations: Proven experience managing RCM in a high-volume setting.
- FQHC/Ambulatory Care Expertise: Highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate deep knowledge of the FQHC Prospective Payment System (PPS) reimbursement, Sliding Fee Discount Program rules, and HRSA guidelines.
- Specialized Service Lines: Direct experience overseeing billing/coding for behavioral health (specifically including ASAM/SUD treatment) alongside traditional medical, dental, and optometry services.

- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, and community partners in person, by telephone, and electronically.
- Ability to use computers, electronic medical records, and standard office equipment for documentation and administrative duties.
- Ability to maintain visual acuity, concentration, and attention to detail necessary for patient care, documentation, and medical leadership responsibilities.
