Provides professional nursing assessment and initiates nursing care to patients presenting themselves for care. Determines the urgency of the patients' presenting complaints and designates triage category. Treats patients in medical office, as directed by Physician, by performing the following duties.
Set up and disinfect per infection control protocol examination room for nurse visits.
Make accurate patient assessments and assign a visit priority.
Initiate diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by protocols.
Demonstrate strong clinic skills including Intravenous management, venipuncture and advanced resuscitation.
Interview patient and/or family to obtain required history and accurate assessment.
Communicate and acts as liaison between the patient, family, and physician with respect for confidentiality and dignity.
Chart concisely, descriptively, and legibly and include patient's progress or lack of progress.
Check labs and follow up with patients for results.
Support team Providers with their Provider Assistance Queue (PAQ).
Communicate clearly and appropriately with patients and with others in the clinic environment, coordinating the needs of nursing with supporting staff.
Assist in solving problems related to the welfare of patients and staff.
Assist in specialty clinics working alongside Specialist, case management and follow-up with patient.
Participate in Diabetes Management Clinics with Provider and other team members.
Advise injured staff concerning medical treatment/ First aide only-refer to Human Resources if patient requires treatment follow-ups.
Examine and advise personnel who become ill.
Prepare accident reports in coordination with concerned staff and manager.
Maintain OSHA records concerning reportable illnesses and injuries.
Perform yearly TB immunization and updates employee annual immunization record per Human Resource protocol.
Ensure that employees with work-related injuries are referred to an outside contracted provider and notifies the Human Resources Department of any IHC staff seeking treatment for work related injury. Forward a completed first doctor's report to Human Resources for all IHC employees treated for work related injury or first aid.
Schedule patient appointments and coordinate referrals, coordinate transportation needs.
Provide general nursing care treatment to patients, assisting and working under the supervision of a licensed provider.
Obtain and record cursory history of present illness or problem.
Obtain vital signs and prepare patients for examination.
Administer treatments dispense medications and provide immunizations as ordered by provider.
Assist with patient education, emphasizing preventive measures, nutrition, prenatal care, children care with special attention to prevalent chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.
Work with patient advocate in screening and triaging of patients.
Oversee patient flow for team and department.
Orders Rx refill per protocol.
Report reportable infectious diseases quarterly.
Ensure medical department is following CLIA and OSHA regulations and represents the medical department at safety committee meetings.
Participate in medical department meetings, case management of clinical indicators and other various committee meetings.
Position may be re-assigned during activation of EOP.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Travel is not required for this position. Driving is required for this position.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree preferred. 1-year minimum experience in an ambulatory care clinic setting. Native American or underserved population experience preferred.
Knowledge of management and nursing organizational theory to supervise the operation of the nursing department. Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train, delegate and mentor staff. Knowledge of medical safety practices of employee standard requirements to evaluate existing standards and implement new procedures. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional nursing. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in identifying problems and researching and recommending resolutions. Skill in preparing records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, decision-making. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff, and the public. Ability to establish quality control. Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point. Electronic health records software (OCHIN EPIC preferred). Utilization of Paycom and PolicyTech systems.
RN license, current and unrestricted in California. Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS CPR certification or attainment within 6 months of hire. Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test. Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position. Must pass criminal background check.
Indoor/Outdoor clinical setting.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices. Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions. Use appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment. Follow all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols.
Maintain privacy of all patient, employee, and volunteer information. Access such information only on a need-to-know basis and for business purposes only. Comply with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior or activity.
