IP Docketing Specialist – Patent & Trademark

Are you an experienced IP docketing professional who knows U.S. and foreign patent prosecution and enjoys being the person attorneys can rely on to keep critical deadlines on track?

A highly regarded Washington, DC law firm is seeking an  IP Docketing Specialist to join its intellectual property team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with at least three years of patent docketing experience who is looking for a collaborative environment, interesting work, and a hybrid schedule.

You’ll work with sophisticated U.S. and international patent matters and play an important role in ensuring deadlines, filings, correspondence, and docket records are accurate and up to date.

What You’ll Do

• Docket U.S. and foreign patent and trademark applications and related deadlines
• Review and process incoming USPTO, PCT, WIPO, foreign associate, and other IP correspondence
• Review transfer-in files and accurately update docketing records
• Monitor incoming and outgoing correspondence and update the docket accordingly
• Review and clear daily dockets to ensure deadlines are properly tracked and completed
• Process electronic filing receipts and assist with quality control of filings
• Identify potential filing errors or omissions and bring them to the appropriate team member’s attention
• Prepare client status and docket reports for attorneys
• Process matter changes, case closings, assignment changes, and other attorney requests
• Conduct electronic searches using USPTO, WIPO, and foreign IP office websites
• Provide overflow docketing and team coverage as needed

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of solid IP docketing experience
• Strong knowledge of  U.S. and foreign patent prosecution procedures
• Experience with  Inprotech or comparable IP docketing software
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a deadline-driven environment
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach
• Flexibility to work overtime when needed
• Some college coursework preferred
