Structural Steel Ironworker-Certified Welder

Job Description
Job Description
Location
Kenton, DE
A day in your steel-toed bootsSun-up finds you reviewing blueprints and specs, mapping out how columns, beams, and girders will tie together. By mid-morning, you’re in a harness, 50 feet up, signaling a crane as steel members swing into position. You align them true using plumb bobs, lasers, and levels—drift pins at the ready—then snug bolts or prep for welds. When steel needs persuasion, turnbuckles, crowbars, and jacks help you nudge members into final position.
Between sets, you prep and clean steel: remove rust, deteriorated sections, and old bolts or rivets with needle guns, rivet busters, and torches. You cut and bevel plate with an oxy‑acetylene torch, run 7018, and move confidently across 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions. Grinders, drills, impact wrenches, and spud wrenches are constant companions. Where required, you fabricate temporary frames or strongbacks, align, and hold until the permanent connection is made. As the day winds down, you brush or spray finish paint on completed members, ensuring a clean handoff to the next crew.
