Director of Infrastructure Engineering

Lead the design, implementation, and operation of the cloud infrastructure and developer platform that power production AI systems. This hands-on leadership role combines long-term infrastructure strategy with operational ownership, incident response, and mentoring a high-performing engineering team to keep systems secure, observable, resilient, and cost effective as the company scales.

• Own the architecture and evolution of multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS and GCP, optimizing for scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
• Lead, hire, and grow a platform/infrastructure engineering team, establishing a culture of ownership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
• Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform or equivalent tools, ensuring reproducible, version-controlled, and auditable environments.
• Design and maintain CI/CD systems that enable fast, reliable, and secure software delivery.
• Build and operate observability across metrics, logs, traces, and alerting to detect and resolve production issues proactively.
• Define and drive reliability practices, including incident response, on-call operations, service level objectives and error budgets, disaster recovery, and blameless postmortems.
• Partner with Security and Engineering leadership to embed security by default and support compliance with frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and CMMC.
• Continuously improve developer experience by reducing operational friction through automation and platform tooling.
• Participate directly in production incident resolution and mentor engineers on operational best practices.

• 8+ years building and operating production infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE systems.
• 3+ years leading engineering teams in high-growth environments.
• Deep expertise operating AWS, GCP, or multi-cloud production environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, containers, and modern CI/CD platforms.
• Proven track record delivering highly available, observable, and resilient production systems.
• Solid understanding of infrastructure security, compliance, and operational risk management.
• Experience scaling engineering organizations and infrastructure in fast-moving startup environments.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence technical strategy across engineering and executive stakeholders.

Required skills : AWS, GCP, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, security-first mindset, team leadership.

Preferred experience : supporting AI or ML infrastructure or large-scale data platforms, familiarity with model training, inference, evaluation or data pipeline infrastructure, operating regulated cloud environments such as FedRAMP, GovCloud, or CMMC Level 2, contributions to platform engineering or open-source infrastructure.

• Listed compensation for the Director of Infrastructure Engineering core team: $350, 000 to $500, 000 per year.
• Notice: the national pay range provided for this full-time position is base salary of $230, 000 to $260, 000 per year.
• All employees are eligible for equity compensation, and employees may also receive performance-based bonuses.
