Make a direct impact in the lives of elementary students with significant cognitive disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities and autism, in a dynamic school community near Upper Marlboro, MD. This full-time contract opportunity focuses on providing tailored special education services for a diverse caseload at a forward-thinking elementary school. You’ll collaborate with supportive staff and implement individualized strategies to help every student reach their full potential.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland Special Education Teacher certification (conditional certifications not accepted)
- Experience working with students with significant cognitive disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and autism
- Familiarity with managing challenging or interfering behaviors in the classroom
- Ability to pass a required security screening for access to a military base
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, students, and families
- Committed to fostering an inclusive and positive learning environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for elementary students
- Assess student progress and adapt teaching approaches to meet varied learning needs
- Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports for students exhibiting interfering behaviors
- Collaborate closely with school teams, aides, therapists, and families to ensure comprehensive service delivery
- Maintain accurate documentation and comply with all district, state, and federal special education regulations
- Participate actively in professional development and school meetings
