Hybrid Accountant (12-Month) - Gross Margin & SAP

Job Title: Accountant Duration: 12 Month Contract Location: Downtown Houston, TX Required Pay Scale: $49-$51hr W2 (NO C2C) Due to client requirements this role is only open to USC or GC candidates Job Summary The Accountant is responsible for managing gross margin accounting, including month‑end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis of estimated versus actual gross margin results. The role also oversees LDC invoice settlement, prepares monthly reconciliations and volume balancing files, supports internal and external audits, and contributes to process and system improvements across the accounting function. Project Details The Accountant supports the company’s gross margin accounting function, ensuring accurate month‑end close, balance sheet integrity, and proper settlement of LDC (Local Distribution Company) invoices. Work centers on validating financial results, reconciling high‑volume accounts, and maintaining accuracy across gross margin, inventory, and LDC‑related activity. Must Haves Accounting Degree — Bachelor’s in Accounting or related field. 3–5 Years Experience — Solid background in general accounting and finance. Month‑End Close — Proven ability to execute accurate, timely close cycles. Balance Sheet Recs — Strong reconciliation discipline across multiple accounts. Gross Margin Work — Experience preparing and analyzing gross margin estimates vs. actuals. LDC Settlement — Ability to prepare, reconcile, and settle LDC invoices and statements. Advanced Excel — Pivot tables, lookups, modeling, data validation. SAP or ERP — Experience with SAP or similar enterprise accounting systems. Audit Support — Ability to provide documentation and respond to audit requests. Analytical Skills — Strong problem‑solving and variance‑explanation capability. Communication Skills — Clear written and verbal communication across teams. Fast‑Paced Environment — Ability to meet tight deadlines and handle close‑cycle pressure. Hybrid Availability — Four days onsite in Houston, Friday remote; must pay own parking. Desired Skills SAP Experience — Prior work in SAP or a similar ERP environment. Energy Industry Knowledge — Understanding of gas wholesale or retail energy markets. Advanced Excel — Strong skills with pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, modeling, and data analysis. Process Improvement — Ability to identify gaps and streamline workflows. Audit Support — Experience preparing documentation and responding to audit requests. Strong Communication — Clear written and verbal communication across finance, operations, and IT. Analytical Thinking — Ability to interpret data, explain variances, and resolve discrepancies. Independent Work — Comfortable owning tasks in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Team Collaboration — Ability to partner with cross‑functional groups, including IT and operations. Attention to Detail — High accuracy in reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
