The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Director of Development for the New Orleans Aras Command, located in New Orleans, LA.

Job Summary:

Plans, develops, implements, administers, evaluates, and monitors an aggressive Direct Fund Raising Program targeting the assigned area under the direction of the Officer(s) in Charge; develops and secures funds to reach/surpass fund-raising goals through a variety of financial development vehicles including: individual gifts and individual donor upgrading, corporate gifts and sponsorships, foundation support for specific programs and projects, government grants, and capital campaigns, and special events. Works directly and independently with local officers, their boards, and committees to develop local promotional plans; plans and coordinates all public relations activities and ensures compliance with the designated budget. Meets fundraising goals and objectives as established by the Officer(s) in Charge and/or Divisional representatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy. Knowledge of modern principles and practices of individual, corporate, foundation, grant-seeking, and special events fund raising. Knowledge of and ability to interpret charitable solicitation laws, The Salvation Army policies, and local, state, and federal laws as they relate to fund raising and charitable solicitation. Knowledge of donor records management and administration as well as data and trend analysis. Knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and financial management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective communications and public relations. Ability to produce the highest possible monetary return for The Salvation Army through an effective and efficient Financial Development Program. Ability to design, plan, administer and monitor the day-to-day operations of a Regional Financial Development Program and to ensure compliance to the mission of The Salvation Army. Ability to lead, motivate, encourage, and inspire volunteers working on financial development activities. Ability to work effectively with Divisional administration, field staff, legal counsel, and office staff. Ability to conduct the affairs of this office responsibly, efficiently, and economically, and to motivate the staff to do likewise.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing or a related field with specialized training in Fund Raising Management highly desirable, and three to five years of progressively responsible experience in fund raising and fund-raising management, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State Driver's License. CFRE and/or CFRM desired.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory on a frequent basis to work with divisional and local unit financial development staff, their donors, and professionals of their communities. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to understand and manage budgets and financial matters Ability to travel throughout assigned geographical area on a frequent basis.
