About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of RN experience in acute care required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU level RN experience NIHSS experience Central venous line management/placement Foley catheter management Tube feedings via NGT or PEG Arterial line management Diabetes management Drip titration experience (Levophed preferred) Amiodarone experience Cardizem experience Insulin management EKG competency exam required prior to arrival Description: The unit has 6 beds. Patient types include CVA and TIA. Adequate PPE will be provided. Patient ratios are RN: 1:3 and CNA: 1:6. A charge nurse will take a patient assignment depending on staffing. Phlebotomy services are not available on the unit. VAT team will assist with PICC/midline placement. A resource nurse is available. Rehabilitation services are available 24/7. A hospitalist is available 24/7. The charting system is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris. Medication dispensing is handled by Pyxis. Travelers may float to stepdown or medical-surgical units frequently. Scheduling includes every other weekend. Mandatory rotations may include 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Requests for time off may be allowed up to 7 days, with conditions. Only one weekend request per contract is permitted. Working during 2 or 3 major holidays is expected. Professionalism is mandatory, including no cell phone usage in patient care areas and no eating at desks. T-shirt colors must be gray, white, or black with the appropriate monogram. Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and visible at all times.
