Phlebotomist Sr.- Dallas Presby

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Phlebotomist to join our Dallas Presbyterian location. This is a full‑time Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm position with no weekends, on‑call duties, or major holidays. The position may be at Level 1 (entry), Level 2 (requires three years of experience), or Senior (requires five or more years of experience). What does the Phlebotomist do? Under direct supervision, the Phlebotomist collects and processes specimens from patients, follows quality assurance and safety policies, assists with patient flow, properly identifies patients, draws blood, sends samples to the laboratory, maintains collection areas and equipment, and performs record‑keeping duties. The role works within defined SOPs and adheres to quality guidelines. Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy and collects required specimens as ordered, ensuring pre‑authorizations and consent (ABN) before limited coverage tests. Maintains documentation as per the quality assurance program, including accessioning logs, equipment records, and checklists. Ensures adequate inventory of supplies and verifies suitability before use. Sends specimens to reference laboratories for tests not performed in‑house. Processes incoming orders for laboratory testing. Processes in‑house and incoming reports. Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs. Properly identifies and bands patients for blood product transfusion, and processes properly labeled specimens per local blood bank policy. Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed. Uses equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently; maintains equipment and work area per directives. Performs waived lab testing under CLIA guidelines, recording lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents. Complies with regulatory standards, including OSHA and universal precaution procedures. Properly disposes of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the phlebotomy and laboratory area as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all patient and staff information. Qualifications Level 1 Entry‑level position requiring no experience. High school diploma or equivalent required. Licensure from an accredited phlebotomy school recommended. Current state licensure, if applicable. Level 2 Requires three years of experience (in addition to Level 1 requirements). Senior Requires five or more years of experience (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements). Physical Demands The job requires full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination while operating complex laboratory equipment. It involves sitting and standing for extended periods, handling items up to 40 lb, correct vision, color perception, hearing within normal range, and legible handwriting.
