Responsibilities

VP, Field Underwriting serves as the strategic, operational, and motivational leader for enterprise‑wide field underwriting operations. This role provides overarching leadership across all field underwriting functions, ensuring consistent execution, profitable growth, underwriting discipline, and strong producer relationships across BTU’s full domestic footprint.National Underwriting LeadershipOversee enterprise‑wide field underwriting operations, ensuring consistent underwriting strategy, execution, and quality across all regions.Drive profitability by managing underwriting performance, portfolio mix, pricing adequacy, and risk selection across the entire field organization.Ensure adherence to BTU underwriting guidelines, appetite, authority levels, and regulatory requirements across all field offices.Partner with actuarial, claims, and risk control to guide underwriting decisions and maintain alignment with BTU’s technology‑centric risk approach.Sales, Distribution & Market EngagementLead national sales and distribution strategies that support BTU’s specialized positioning as a global technology insurance provider.Strengthen and expand producer and broker relationships across the company’s footprint.Oversee enterprise‑wide delivery of agency training, product education, and field marketing initiatives.Represent BTU in the technology insurance marketplace as a subject‑matter expert in underwriting for technology‑exposed businesses.Operational Leadership & GovernanceDevelop and implement consistent underwriting processes, workflows, and quality assurance standards across all field teams.Conduct regular underwriting audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workflow efficiency and quality.Ensure strong alignment between field operations and corporate underwriting strategy.Talent Leadership & DevelopmentLead, mentor, and develop field underwriting staff at all levels across the enterprise.Promote BTU’s culture of innovation, specialization, and collaborative problem‑solving.Oversee staffing, succession planning, and capability building across field underwriting functions.May perform other functions as assigned

Qualifications

EducationBachelor’s degree required (or equivalent experience).QualificationsMinimum 10+ years of multi‑line underwriting and marketing experience.Travel: FrequentlyDemonstrated success leading underwriting teams at a regional, national, or enterprise level.Deep knowledge of property, casualty, professional liability, and cyber coverages for technology‑focused businesses.Strong analytical, decision‑making, and negotiation skills.Excellent leadership and communication abilities with a track record of developing high‑performing teams.Working knowledge of underwriting systems and digital workflows.Valid driver’s license required.Must maintain a valid driver’s license and carry vehicle insurance coverage.Berkley Core CompetenciesCoaches and Motivates PeopleBuilds Effective TeamsManages ChangeDrives ProductivityBusiness Acumen
