Physician - Psychiatrist

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications Basic requirements as listed in the job announcement; pending training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Personnel currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Other basic requirements: United States Citizenship , MD or equivalent degree from a VA-approved school, full and unrestricted license, residency training per VA standards, proficiency in English, board certification or eligibility in psychiatry, physical standards pass, drug testing. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited). Doctor of medicine or equivalent allopathic/osteopathic degree from a VA‑approved school. Current full and unrestricted license to practice in the U.S. or its territories. Residency training completed in a VA‑approved core specialty leading to board certification. Optional: VA physicians involved in academic training may need board certification for faculty status. Valid additional requirements: board certified or board eligible in psychiatry. Physical standards: pass required physical examination, drug testing, lifting 15-44 lbs, pushing (approx 2 hours), reaching above shoulder, walking and standing 3-5 hours, kneeling, rapid coordination, depth perception, color distinction; hearing aid permitted. Duties Open continuous announcement; exists until July 13, 2026. Initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications: May 18, 2026; subsequent cut‑off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be considered for vacancies as they arise. Clinical: evaluation and management of patients face‑to‑face and via telehealth; outpatient mental health clinic evaluations; supervise medical trainees. Practice safety, environmental, and infection control methods. Instruct other personnel on preventive medicine programs. Administrative: oversight and leadership of clinical functions for staff and trainees, including RNPs and pharmacists; serve on hospital and service level committees such as medication management or pain committees. Support VAPAHCS philosophy and goals; ensure research outcomes conducted per policy.
