Community Mental Health Specialist

Position Overview The Community Mental Health Specialist supports The Jed Foundation’s portfolio of programming with community-based organizations across the country, including those participating in the Institute for Youth Mental Health and the JED CBO Program. Reporting to the Director of Community Initiatives, the role plays a key part in implementing JED’s evidence-based framework for mental health promotion, suicide prevention, and substance misuse prevention within youth and young adult‑serving organizations and municipalities. Ideal candidates have mission‑driven, systems‑mindful mental health expertise with strong communication, project coordination, and advisory skills. Compensation: $80,000 – $115,000 per year Location: New York City, New York Program Support & Technical Assistance Support high‑quality consulting services for CBOs enrolled in the Institute for Youth Mental Health and JED CBO Program. Assist senior staff with implementing mental health promotion, suicide prevention, and substance use initiatives within youth‑serving organizations. Participate in strategic planning, stakeholder meetings, and program assessments with partner organizations; support documentation, follow‑up, and content development. Advising & Resource Development Contribute to creation and refinement of resources, toolkits, guides, and communications materials for community partners. Assist with development and facilitation of webinars, presentations, and workshops. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting Support ongoing monitoring and evaluation, including data tracking, progress documentation, and reviewing program milestones. Contribute to strategic plans, progress summaries, and outcome reports for stakeholders. Maintain accurate records of partner engagement and technical assistance activities using Salesforce, Asana, and other systems. Collaboration & Internal Coordination Work collaboratively with senior leadership and JED staff to coordinate CBO-related workstreams. Participate in team meetings and cross‑functional planning to align program strategy and implementation goals. Stay up to date on best practices in community mental health, youth development, and systems‑level change. Qualifications Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, public health, education, or related field required (LPC, MSW, MPH, MEd, or early‑ to mid‑career PhD preferred). 3–7 years of experience with youth‑serving organizations, municipal or city agencies, CBOs, or other public‑sector systems supporting youth and community well‑being. Demonstrated knowledge of youth mental health, suicide prevention, substance misuse prevention, or related public health initiatives. Experience supporting system‑level implementation or change management initiatives, especially in community settings. Excellent verbal and written communication, including presentations and professional report writing. Strong organizational, analytical, and program coordination skills. Collaborative team player who thrives in a mission‑driven and evolving environment. Location and Travel Roles are primarily hybrid and based out of the New York City Tri‑State Area. Travel to JED’s central office in NYC or other locations may be required for periodic retreats or business meetings. Frequent phone, email, and video conferencing communication requiring clear speech, active listening, and visual acuity. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds for event setup or promotional materials. Flexibility to adjust to different work environments, including home offices and on‑site events.
