Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview Diagnoses, performs repairs and preventative maintenance services on a variety of saws and shearing equipment at all California locations. Plans and executes preventative maintenance schedules and works closely with branch leaders to ensure maintenance is timely and effective. Consults on the selection and purchase of replacement equipment. Ensures emergencies are addressed professionally and with appropriate urgency. Provides excellent customer service. Performs related duties as required. Reports to: Warehouse Manager and Shift Supervisor. Responsibilities And Duties Diagnoses, repairs, and executes preventative maintenance needs and requirements for all equipment. Maintains Class “C” motor vehicles. Performs weekly inspection and monthly engine start tests of the company’s emergency generator to substantiate its readiness. Conducts semi‑annual and annual inspections of cranes. Proactively maintains an inventory of spare parts, lubricants and other supplies related to vehicle and equipment repair. Creates and maintains current maintenance and expenditure records for each piece of equipment repaired and maintained by the company. Informs the Warehouse Manager or Branch General Manager of all expenditures over $1,000.00. Relays all maintenance situations that negatively affect overall customer service and company productivity to branch supervisors. Communicates and coordinates with vendors, such as parts suppliers, to ensure equipment is properly maintained and repaired in a timely manner, with the goal of reducing downtime. Maintains good housekeeping in and around all repair areas and related work areas, tidying up after each job and working with cleanliness and safety in mind. Drives company business vehicles. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Core Competencies Exercising independent judgment and decision‑making based on standard policy or procedures. Strong customer, quality and results orientation. Knowledge of methods, equipment, materials and tools used in diagnosing, repairing and maintaining light and heavy gasoline, diesel‑powered vehicles and electrically powered equipment. Knowledge of ASME B30.2 standards for crane operation. Strong detail orientation and understanding of safe work processes and procedures. Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Practice good housekeeping of the work area(s). Skills Efficiently and effectively diagnose, repair and perform preventative maintenance on processing equipment. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Driving company vehicles and/or equipment courteously, complying with all vehicle laws and regulations and prioritizing safety. Operating applicable vehicles and loading machinery, including forklifts, side loaders, scissor lifts and overhead cranes. Properly operates basic measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers and tape measures, converting metric and English units when required. Safely operates power equipment, including a variety of saws and shears. Proficient in operating modern desktop computers, related software and other office equipment. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Proficient in utilizing IMS business systems. Abilities Perform mechanical repairs. Inspect and diagnose mechanical issues and determine appropriate maintenance requirements. Perform periodic inspections of overhead cranes. Prepare and maintain records and reports, manually and electronically. Analyze problems and develop solutions. Organize workload for maximum effectiveness. Take ownership of and focus on critical initiatives. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and associates. Be an effective team member. Recognize and embrace change as the environment and organization evolve. Requirements/Specifications High school graduation or equivalent. A minimum of three years of repair experience of gasoline and diesel‑powered vehicles, propane, and electrically powered equipment, including forklifts and associated processing equipment. Licenses & Certificates Valid California Class C Driver License or equivalent, maintained throughout employment. OSHA‑compliant forklift certification, maintained throughout employment. OSHA‑compliant scissor lift certification, maintained throughout employment. Physical Demands Must be able to see, hear, speak and write clearly. Manual dexterity is required for occasional reaching and lifting of small objects, and operating office equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance. Work Environment The warehouse is clean, orderly, properly lit and ventilated. Noise levels are considered moderate to high.
