Measurement Technician - Liquids

Position Summary This position is responsible for the operation of compressors, motors, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, pipelines and other related gas processing equipment. It ensures the cost‑effective and efficient operation of gas processing and treating units and associated equipment within gas and liquid facilities and pipelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Operate, inspect and maintain equipment and systems at plant facilities, including cryogenic plants, hydrocarbon fractionation units, LNG facilities, engines and compressors, pumps, pump stations, pressure relief systems, instrument air systems, dehydrators, treating systems, emergency shutdown systems, reciprocating compressors, gas‑fired heaters, process pumps, amine treating systems, inlet gas receivers and NGL storage and transfer facilities reliably and efficiently while complying with procedural and regulatory requirements. Seek to optimize processing through the facility by maintaining proper product specifications. Respond to alarms and problems within the plant and take corrective measures. Monitor and control pressures, temperatures, flow rates and levels to efficiently achieve desired operating results and ensure proper operation of equipment under current process conditions such as start/stop/rate adjustment of equipment. Demonstrate understanding of maintenance and compliance of plant operations in alignment with partnership and environmental standards (PSM‑SPCC‑TNRCC), including creation and maintenance of required reporting and readings. Maintain and adhere to required trainings, policies and procedures. Where applicable, pass all PSM‑required operator certifications. Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives. Communicate with control centers, business groups and other operating groups as necessary. Oversee the construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties. May perform lab tests for quality assurance, diagnose mechanical problems, complete minor repairs as needed, assist other technical staff and any other tasks as assigned or required. May monitor field compressor status through the use of SCADA. Comply with partnership safety policies and procedures. Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO). Metering Responsibilities This position maintains liquid meters, pneumatic/hydraulic composite samplers, flow computers, valves, valve operators, piston type provers, sphere type provers, and performs calibrations and inspections of all instrumentation related to quality and quantity determination in a manner that meets operational needs in compliance with partnership and regulatory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Maintain and operate facilities in compliance with applicable specifications, codes, safety standards and operating procedures. Perform density verifications using a pycnometer and/or hydrometer. Perform periodic accuracy tests, including the calibration, inspection and maintenance of all equipment related to quality and quantity determination. Witness meter performance verifications as performed by third‑party contractors, as needed. Maintain and operate custody transfer measurement facilities, including tank gauging, in compliance with applicable specifications, codes, safety standards and operating procedures. Maintain, operate, troubleshoot and repair measurement equipment, including meters, samplers, flow computers and other peripheral measurement‑related devices. Install instrumentation and equipment in new and renovated measurement and/or regulation facilities. Understand system gain/loss processes, ticket writing, etc. Collect product quality samples for crude or NGL liquids, in compliance with partnership safety and industry guidelines. Actively participate in partnership safety program and initiatives. Required Education High school diploma or GED. Required Experience (by level) Level C: 0–2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience. Level B: 2–4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience. Level A: 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience. Required Qualifications Knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, RRC, OSHA, NEC, AGA, API and GPA requirements and procedures. Work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills to interface with our customer base. Preferred Qualifications PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access and Excel. Some college or technical trade school is preferred. Working Conditions The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally. Driving, walking, standing frequently. Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions and heavy lifting; visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, exposure to various materials and chemicals, extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, requiring appropriate personal protective equipment.
