The Medical Assistant (MA) Lead plays a crucial role in supporting clinical operations by providing training, optimizing workflows, and coordinating supplies. This individual serves as a Train-the-Trainer for Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) and autoclave procedures, and acts as a key resource for Medical Assistants (MAs) on the floor. Also perform various administrative and clinical duties. Acts as a liaison between patients and providers, interacting with patients to collect data and provide information. Works directly with providers to maintain patient records, collect test samples, and assist in basic examinations when assigned to a patient-provider panel. Provides direction and guidance to the team, upholding the group's vision and measuring progress toward goals.

What You'll Do:

• Serves as one of the key clinical participants in project implementation by supporting the MA staff, by making educational resources available, and bringing concerns forward to the nursing leader for review
• Support as core team members in MA onboarding, check-ins, and day-of support with clinical flow
• Proactively develops a strong working relationship with other MAs and supports their skill mastery and core competencies required for job proficiency
• Assists the clinical nursing leader in maintaining professional practice and providing constructive feedback for workflow improvements
• Work closely with the nursing leader in day-to-day nursing operation facilitation, including patient flow, assisting with MA resources, and provider-patient needs
• Supports the clinic in medication inventory management using Willow for daily/weekly/monthly cycle count as well as in the process of ordering and receiving medications and vaccines
• Conducts huddles, team discussions, and ad-hoc reminders with the MA team to ensure the appropriate workflow is followed and maintained
• Consistently follows established clinical workflow and protocol to ensure the MA team is performing within the scope of their practice as defined and managed by the organization
• Supports in completing MA competency as appropriate for the scope of practice
• Work proactively with the clinic nursing leader regarding the skill level and performance improvement of the MA employees
• Updates the clinic nursing leader on new hire readiness and onboarding performance evaluation by regularly checking in with them and supporting with locating as-needed resources
• Supports the nursing leader with quality assurance measures, including but not limited to hand hygiene audits, employee mask fitting, and employee onboarding immunization and labs
• Serves as a subject matter expert (SME) with point of care testing (POCT) and trains new hire MAs and apprenticeship with POCT and audits
• Assists the nursing leader in maintaining the autoclave and sterilization procedures, as well as audits per the organization's protocol
• Maintain experience with patient-provider panel and assist in patient intake and rooming as necessary
• Able to take initiative and engage in supporting the patient-provider panel with efficiency
• Able to support the MA staff as well as participate in the MA-led clinic schedule for tasks such as immunization and vaccination
• Supports the clinic with ordering and maintaining general supplies
• Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements
• Assist with the coordination of breaks and lunches
• Able to perform the core duty of staff MA, including but not limited to:
  Prepares for patient visits by reviewing the patient file, requests for labs, referrals, and correspondence. Verifies and ensures necessary reports are present and provides updates to the Provider team as needed. Maintains and updates patient medical records, including patient's medical history, current status, including vital signs, medical treatments, medication provided, and immunization records when assigned to a patient-provider panel. Prepares and maintains patient examination rooms, ensuring that appropriate supplies are in the room and all the appropriate equipment is available and sterilized.
  Prepares patient for examinations, explaining medical treatment procedures as needed. Assists the provider during examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor clinic procedures. Supports clinical workflow for collection and preparation of laboratory specimens for screenings. Collects and reviews patient data per protocol. Follows up on test results as directed by the providers. Documents specimens collected and results in the electronic medical record (EMR). Provides simple instruction and/or coaching for patients within scope. This includes referral information, responding to follow-up questions, and/or instructions about medication and possible allergic reactions. Assist in preparing and administering medication as instructed by a provider. Responds to patients' questions and concerns promptly. If the question is outside of scope, direct inquiries to the appropriate person. Collaborates with providers and the clinic team to ensure efficiency of schedules and continuity of care.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• 2 years of Medical Assistant work experience, and currently a certified MA
• Minimum 1 year as a YVFWC employee in good standing with the organization, including commendable or exceptional scores on their annual performance review. A natural leader. Up to date on all required competencies
• CPR certification is required within 90 days of hire
• Minimum of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma GED that is accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency approved by the US Department of Education is required.
• Graduation from a medical assisting training program (may be a one-year certificate/diploma program or a two-year Associate Degree program) that is accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This training program must be comprised of at least 720 hours of medical assistant training, including at least 160 hours in a clinical externship
• Must have Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant interim certification from the WA State Department of Health.
• This position is eligible for Bilingual Differential Compensation when an ALTA score of 10 is achieved
• Spanish-speaking skills are required at a level 10
