Executive Director, Technology Product Management – Medical Cost Initiatives

Reports To: VP, Chief Health Informatics Officer (CHIO) - CVS Healthcare Delivery

Role Overview

As the Executive Director, Digital Product – Medical Cost Initiatives , you will lead the technology product strategy and execution for key medical cost portfolios for CVS Healthcare Delivery businesses. Core areas of focus are Care Transitions, Patient Segmentation, Chronic Condition Pathways, and Specialty Care Services.

In this high-impact executive role, you will partner directly with clinical and business operational leaders to shape end-to-end technology pathways that support CVS Healthcare Delivery care models. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of product managers, Epic analysts, software engineers, data scientists, and UI/UX designers to translate clinical vision into scalable technology roadmaps that optimize patient outcomes and lower the total cost of care.

The ideal candidate must have expertise with value-based care models and Epic as a core care delivery platform.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnership & Care Model Integration

• Partner with healthcare delivery leadership to collaborate on end-to-end care models across transitions, chronic care pathways, patient segmentation, and specialty care.
• Serve as a strategic thought partner with CVS HCD business stakeholders as they define the "why" and the "what.’ Serve as the accountable party to ensure cross-functional technology teams deliver meaningful technology solutions to drive core business outcomes.
• Establish shared outcome metrics with business leaders, ensuring all technology investments directly drive improved clinical quality, patient experience, and financial performance.

Product & Technology Leadership

• Lead multidisciplinary technology teams —including Product Managers, Epic Analysts, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Designers—to build seamless, end-to-end clinical technology pathways that reduce medical costs, while driving patient experience and outcomes.
• Oversee the transformation of broad clinical ideas into rigorous problem statements, actionable product specifications, and robust Epic/technology architectures.
• Ensure smooth integration between external data sources (e.g., claims data, remote monitoring, health plan feeds) and internal Epic workflows to provide clinicians with real-time, actionable insights. Know when these integrations are needed and partner with technical team members to ensure effective execution that works well in clinical practice.

Operational Execution & Continuous Improvement

• Take end-to-end accountability for the technology lifecycle, from initial problem discovery through technical solutioning, build, deployment, and measurable outcome realization.
• Establish continuous feedback loops and iterative improvement cycles to ensure deployed technologies achieve targeted clinical and financial goals.
• Maintain a deep operational understanding of both Value-Based Care (VBC) and Fee-for-Service (FFS) delivery environments to ensure solutions scale across business models.

Team Leadership & Culture

• Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing product team of "translators"—professionals fluent in both healthcare operations and technology capability.
• Lead and mentor cross-functional technology teams beyond product - Epic analysts, engineers, data scientists - focused on driving success in CVS HCD Medical Cost Initiatives.
• Foster a team culture grounded in curiosity, resilience, problem-solving, and joy, maintaining high engagement even during complex, high-pressure execution cycles.

Qualifications & Key Competencies

• Executive Presence: Proven ability to communicate, influence, and build trust with senior executive stakeholders and frontline team members alike.
• Epic & Healthcare Tech Expertise: Hands-on experience with Epic EHR workflows, module configurations, and translating operational requirements into Epic builds. Understanding of how external health data enriches EHR clinical workflows.
• Healthcare Operations & Domain Knowledge: Deep familiarity with clinical operations, Quality Improvement (QI) methodologies, Value-Based Care (VBC) constructs, and Fee-For-Service (FFS) operational dynamics, and medical cost initiative care pathways.
• Product & Technical Leadership: Track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver high-scale technology backed clinical interventions.
• Problem-Solving & Accountability: Exceptional analytical rigor; ability to frame ambiguous clinical challenges into structured problem statements and hold teams accountable to measurable outcomes.
• Hands-on Leader: Knows when to delegate and work alongside team members to drive success.
• People Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, optimism, and rigor, building high-trust teams that excel under pressure.

Required Experience & Education

• Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Graduate degree and/or clinical background preferred (RN, MD, DO, NP, PA)
• Experience: 10-15+ years of progressive leadership experience spanning healthcare operations, clinical technology product management, and enterprise EHR implementation (specifically Epic).
• Track Record: Proven history of partnering with primary care delivery networks, retail clinics, or value-based care organizations to improve medical cost trends and clinical care pathways.

Travel & Location

• Domestic travel approximately generally once per quarter, but could be more frequent.
• Location remote anywhere in the U.S.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$175,100.00 - $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
