MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN II/ EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS HOMELESSNESS

Job Summary The Department of Mental Health is seeking Emergency Mental Health Clinician II candidates to address the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles County. Applicants will be hired initially for up to 90 days with the potential for permanent employment upon successful assessment. Responsibilities Perform initial diagnostic evaluations, noting behavioral symptoms and assessing mental disorders in children and adult clients. Plan intervention programs and disposition of cases under treatment as part of the professional treatment team. Provide crisis intervention, treatment, case management, and related mental health services to clients and families. Offer case management, individual, family, and group therapy services. Assess client progress on a selected basis and propose modifications to rehabilitative plans to meet goals agreed with clients. Prepare and maintain psychosocial case histories for diagnostic evaluations and patient progress. Collect and evaluate medical or psychosocial data such as histories, behavior patterns, and family relationships. Engage in psychoeducation activities with consumers, families, and caregivers. Engage in outreach and community-based service provision as required. Serve as broker between client and family, linking them to community resources to maximize self‑sufficiency within disability limits. Conduct treatment groups in schools and community settings with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children to improve interpersonal relations and learning. Minimum Requirements Training and Experience: A current valid license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Marriage Family and Child Counselor) or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science. You must meet the above requirement to be appointed to any vacancies related to this recruitment. Licenses and Physical Requirements A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative transportation method for job‑related functions. Physical Class II – Light: includes light administrative and clerical work with occasional light lifting up to 10 lb, bending, stooping, and squatting; considerable ambulation may be required. Assessment and Appointment During the initial work period, performance will be assessed at 100 %. Successful candidates will be considered for permanent appointment as Mental Health Clinician II.
