Position Overview

A Cook/Kitchen Support Staff member prepares and serves nutritious meals in a safe, sanitary environment for shelter guests and community members in need. The core purpose of this role is to feed the hungry and support individuals experiencing homelessness or hardship with dignity, compassion, and care.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve daily meals (breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner) for shelter residents and community diners.
• Maintain high standards of kitchen safety, hygiene, and health code sanitation compliance.
• Clean and sanitize work areas, cooking equipment, utensils, and dining spaces after service.
• Lift and carry heavy food supplies or donations weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Work respectfully and professionally with a diverse population, including shelter guests, staff, and volunteers.
• Assist with organizing food pantries, sorting donated food items, and managing kitchen inventory.

Qualifications & Skills

• Ability to prepare meals safely in a high-volume or commercial kitchen environment.
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and communication skills.
• Physical endurance and the ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Compassionate, team-oriented attitude with a strong dedication to community service and helping vulnerable populations.
• Prior experience in institutional cooking, food prep, or professional food service is a strong asset.
