Catering Event Chef

Position Summary The Event Chef at Modern Catering is responsible for leading culinary execution at catered events throughout Colorado’s Front Range. This role ensures that all food is prepared, presented, and served according to company standards while maintaining exceptional quality, efficiency, and professionalism. The Event Chef works closely with the culinary team, event coordinators, event managers and service staff to deliver memorable culinary experiences for weddings, corporate functions, nonprofit galas, and social events. Modern Catering serves more than 500 events annually and emphasizes fresh ingredients, custom menus, and exceptional hospitality. Key Responsibilities Event Culinary Execution Prepare and cook menu items according to approved recipes and event specifications. Execute buffets, plated dinners, stations, and cocktail receptions at off-premise venues. Ensure food quality, presentation, temperature, and timing meet company standards. Adapt quickly to event changes while maintaining consistency and professionalism. Leadership & Team Management Lead and supervise cooks, prep staff, and kitchen assistants during events. Assign tasks and maintain a well-organized kitchen workflow during production and service. Train and mentor culinary staff on preparation techniques, plating standards, and service expectations. Event Setup & Logistics Assist with loading, transporting, and organizing food, equipment, and supplies for events. Set up on-site kitchens and service areas when operating at off-premise venues. Coordinate with Event Coordinators and Front-of-House staff to ensure smooth event execution. Food Quality & Safety Maintain strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations. Ensure proper food handling, labeling, storage, and temperature control. Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment during events. Work closely with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership to execute menus and event plans. Communicate clearly with service staff to coordinate timing for service and courses. Provide feedback after events to improve operations and menu execution. Qualifications 3+ years of professional culinary experience (banquets, catering, or high-volume kitchens preferred). Experience executing off-site catering events or large-scale banquet service. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to perform under pressure while maintaining quality and attention to detail. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards. Physical Requirements Ability to stand for long periods during event production and service. Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on event schedules. Preferred Qualifications Culinary degree or equivalent professional experience. ServSafe or equivalent food safety certification. Experience with weddings, corporate events, and large social events.
