Customs Trade Agent

Oversee and execute customs clearance and shipment release operations for FedEx Express. Responsibilities Arrange the release of FedEx Express shipments from customs custody and complete classification activities. Process FedEx Express caged shipments to ensure timely release and perform audits and quality referral functions. Analyze documentation to determine admissibility and arrange for the necessary release with Customs FTN and FedEx Express systems. Research entries on customs reports (e.g., bo8/late filed cf7501s, b35/misdeliveries, bo7/acs rejected entries) to determine error ownership, provide comments, penalty impact, FTN savings, and required actions for compliance. Interact with FTN teams, FedEx Express, and CBP port office/hub via email, letters, or telephone to resolve problematic entries. Assist with NRTC (no reason to cage) review, cross‑referencing with RCDs and job aids. Perform prior disclosures, QA referrals, and related tasks. Contact customers professionally, advising them of duties, fees, and the 24‑hour response requirement for entry changes. Complete all audit activities assigned accurately and timely. Classify imported merchandise by determining tariff classification, duty rate, and calculating entered value using T/B and FedEx Express systems. Produce a daily performance report on classification and related activities. Ensure files are completed according to customs regulations, OGAs (e.g., FDA), and FedEx contract specifications. Qualifications High school diploma or GED (required). Minimum of one (1) year of experience using computer systems in a professional, educational, or comparable environment, performing routine data entry, document creation, navigation of standard software applications, and basic office equipment operation. Two years of business experience or two years of college credits preferred. Working knowledge of customs regulations, harmonized tariff schedules, and special tariff treatment programs preferred. Ability to analyze data and make sound decisions in a time‑sensitive atmosphere. Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—as well as organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle high volume of work, meet tight deadlines, and work independently with minimum supervision. Experience processing a high volume of incoming information via image, hardcopy, phone, and fax to meet specific time schedules. Preferred Qualifications Preferred schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm CST. Hybrid work only; candidates must live within a 50‑mile radius of 409 Walker Road, Jackson, TN 38305. Availability for mandatory overtime during periods of high volume and company‑recognized holidays. Compensation and Benefits Pay range: $16.85 – $23.60 per hour. Benefits include health, vision, dental insurance, a retirement plan, and tuition reimbursement. Pay transparency: the compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for this role across all potential locations; final pay is determined by experience, market, location, and other factors.
