We are seeking a Director of Engineering to join our leadership team. This position is responsible for overseeing all engineering, maintenance, and facility operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, asset preservation, and guest comfort. The Director of Engineering plays a critical role in protecting the hotel's physical assets, maintaining compliance with brand standards, and supporting operational excellence across the property.

Position Summary

The Director of Engineering provides strategic and hands-on leadership for all engineering and maintenance functions of the hotel. This role oversees building systems, preventive maintenance programs, capital improvement planning, vendor management, life safety compliance, and engineering team development. The successful candidate will be an experienced hotel engineering leader with strong technical expertise, financial acumen, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Engineering department, establishing clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
• Recruit, train, coach, and retain a high-performing engineering team.
• Foster a culture focused on safety, responsiveness, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and life safety systems.
• Ensure all equipment and infrastructure operate efficiently and reliably with minimal downtime.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and mechanical systems.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve the hotel's preventive maintenance program.
• Monitor maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and recurring issues to identify proactive solutions.
• Protect the long-term value of the hotel through effective maintenance and asset management practices.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets, labor expenses, utility costs, contracts, and maintenance expenditures.
• Lead capital planning efforts, including project identification, budgeting, vendor selection, and project execution.
• Manage contractor and vendor relationships to ensure quality workmanship, cost control, and timely completion of projects.
• Serve as the hotel's Life Safety leader and ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and Marriott requirements.
• Maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, warranties, permits, and compliance documentation.
• Support emergency preparedness efforts and oversee engineering-related safety training programs.
• Partner with operational departments to support guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and hotel performance.
• Ensure appropriate engineering coverage and on-call support to meet operational needs.
• Serve as Manager on Duty as assigned.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 5 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in a full-service hotel environment.
• Previous experience as a Director of Engineering, Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar leadership role.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, and life safety systems.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and managing departmental operations.
• Experience managing budgets, forecasting, expense control, and capital planning.
• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents, blueprints, and operational procedures.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Preferred:

• Marriott brand experience.
• Experience supporting luxury, lifestyle, or full-service hotel operations.
• Experience with dual-branded or multi-property hotel environments.
• Experience managing capital projects, renovations, or major system upgrades.
• Relevant technical certifications or licenses.

Schedule Requirements

• Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities as business needs require.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position.
• The hotel operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
