With real products in the field, we're scaling faster than the grid can, transforming power from a bottleneck into a competitive advantage for the companies building the future.Location: Remote with up to 50% required travel to project sitesRole SummaryThe OT Systems Engineer is responsible for deploying, configuring, and supporting operational technology (OT) networks for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role is critical to successful commissioning and system handover, ensuring reliable communications between control systems, EMS, PCS, BMS, SCADA, and remote monitoring platforms.This is a field-facing, deployment-oriented role focused on bringing new projects online.Key ResponsibilitiesDeploy and configure OT network infrastructure for BESS projects, including switches, routers, firewalls, cellular devices, and site communications equipmentSupport commissioning activities by ensuring reliable connectivity between EMS, PCS, BMS, protection relays, meters, and SCADA systemsConfigure network segmentation, VLANs, routing, and secure remote access appropriate for OT environmentsTroubleshoot network and communication issues during commissioning and early operationsWork closely with Deployment Engineers, Controls Engineers, EMS teams, and Field Commissioning teams to resolve system integration issuesSupport site bring-up, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and handover to service teamsDocument site network architectures, configurations, and as-built drawingsContribute to the development of standardized network designs, templates, and deployment proceduresSupport remote monitoring, data acquisition, and secure connectivity to central monitoring platformsTravel to project sites as required during deployment and commissioning phasesRequired Experience & SkillsExperience deploying OT or industrial networks in the field (power, renewables, utilities, manufacturing, oil & gas, or similar)Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals in operational environmentsHands-on experience with industrial networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls)Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, EMS, or industrial control systemsAbility to troubleshoot across network, software, and controls boundariesComfortable working in commissioning environments with incomplete information and time pressureWillingness to travel to project sites during deployment phasesPreferred ExperienceExperience with utility-scale BESS, solar, wind, or substation environmentsExperience with cellular networking, VPNs, and secure remote access for OT systemsFamiliarity with IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, or similar protocols (high-level understanding)Experience supporting commissioning teams in the fieldBackground bridging IT networking concepts into OT environmentsWhat Success Looks Like (6–12 Months)New BESS sites are brought online with stable, secure network connectivityCommissioning timelines are supported, not delayed, by network readinessNetwork issues are resolved quickly and collaboratively during deploymentSite documentation and standards improve over timeField and commissioning teams trust this role as a reliable partnerFor US-based roles - What you'll get:Competitive salary + annual performance-based bonus eligibilityMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and company holidaysFor Mexico-based roles - What you'll get:Competitive salary + annual performance bonus eligibilityChristmas Bonus (Aguinaldo): 30 daysMajor medical expenses and life insurancePaid time off and holidays (per local policy)For all roles:Professional development and growth opportunitiesOpportunity to grow with a mission-driven team shaping the future of clean energyEqual Opportunity: ON.energy is committed to equal employment opportunity and to maintaining a work environment free of harassment, discrimination, or retaliation.Accommodations: If you need an accommodation during the application process, email View email address on click.appcast.io vary by role and location and are subject to change.
