Pharmacy Manager

Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory, and enhances patient experience. Oversees pharmacy staff performance and engagement, and ensures professional development through coaching, training, and formal performance management. Key Responsibilities Patient Experience Engages patients by greeting and offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues promptly and answering questions to ensure a positive experience. Models and shares customer‑service best practices with all team members, demonstrating empathy, inclusivity, and Walgreens service traits. Anticipates patient needs and proactively offers services, leading efforts to enhance patient experience and promote Walgreens’s shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy services. Participates in community events as requested by the Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager. Operations Counsels patients on medicine use, side effects, interactions, contraindications, cost‑effective alternative options, and privacy. Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Accurately dispenses prescribed medications and ensures compliance with regulations, company policies, and standards. Oversees workflow, staff scheduling, role assignment, and team coordination, and is responsible for opening, closing, and shift changes. Implements Good Faith Dispensing policy and adheres to state and federal controlled substance laws. Collaborates with the Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities. Maintains IT knowledge of pharmacy systems, supports staff and patients, and identifies opportunities for productivity improvement. Processes insurance claims accurately, resolves payment rejections, and conducts third‑party audits. Follows up with medical providers to clarify prescriptions and suggest alternatives; performs diagnostic testing and disease state management. Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing. Partners with support teams for patient registration, exception resolution, and virtual product review. Maintains pharmacy department maintenance, housekeeping, equipment, and layout for a functional and presentable pharmacy. Prepares and submits required records and reports to state and federal regulators. People & Performance Management Collaborates with the Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring, discipline, and compliance with employment laws. Establishes expectations, goals, and teamwork; recognizes staff improvements and manages performance through training and formal reviews. Identifies high‑potential team members and collaborates on career progression. Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains morale by checking on welfare and resolving conflicts. Training & Personal Development Maintains required licensing, credentialing, and certification per federal and state regulations. Continues learning in pharmacy and healthcare through journals, Walgreens publications, and best‑practice research. Completes education credits and training modules required by the company. Seeks professional development through self‑monitoring, constructive feedback, and mentorship from the Healthcare Supervisor and Store Manager. Communications Supports the Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness strategy information to pharmacy staff. Business Performance Management Analyzes performance data including pharmacy financials, customer service, and inventory, identifying trends and improvement opportunities. Business Planning Develops relationships with local medical community, promotes the pharmacy business, and supports health and wellness awareness in the community. External Basic Qualifications BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district. Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire. At least one year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, record‑keeping, legal compliance, operations, software and technology systems, and insurance billing. Experience performing prescription dispensing activities with a strong knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws. Average rating of at least 3.0 on leadership behaviors in the last performance review (if applicable) and no written disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates only). Preferred Qualifications Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff. At least six months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens. Average rating of 3.7 or above on leadership behaviors in the last performance review (internal candidates only).
