Mix Bakeshop is an Ashland staple entering our 20th year. We have our Bakeshop location downtown on the plaza and our Coffee Bar on the southside with Remix. Description

Summary

Reports to the Director of Operations. Through Servant Leadership, the Cafe Lead creates a store environment focused on customers, coffee, and high quality bakery goods by modeling Mix Sweet Shop, Inc's. values & culture. The Café Lead is a scheduled and an on-call role responsible for assisting in scheduling, covering shifts, coordinating training programs, ordering/receiving goods, and serving as quality assurance for the team. The Cafe Lead should be warm and genuine, a strong team developer, teacher and performance manager, while maintaining high personal standards.

Essential Functions
  • Lead by example, demonstrating and encouraging exceptional hospitality standards, in service, speed, quality, cleanliness, and work ethic.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of all positions and duties to effectively fill in for time off requests or call outs.
  • Actively support floor staff by being prepared to step into any station that needs backup. Absorb more menial tasks (counter service, washing dishes, restocking, deep cleaning tasks, organization, etc.) so that the team on shift can accomplish their primary tasks with greater focus.
  • Review procedures and address operational issues to enhance service, performance, and safety.
  • Assist in staff scheduling, training, hiring, and managing employee performance.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to achieve financial and operational targets by driving sales and effectively managing store resources.
  • Manage daily administrative and operational activities including handling receipts and deposits; aiding in café maintenance and general upkeep; placing and receiving orders and ensuring café menus are current.
  • Maintain extensive coffee knowledge; know origins and stories of coffees available; attend training; stay informed of industry trends. Utilize this knowledge to help develop and execute seasonal drink menu changes.
  • Stay current on all bakery offerings by connecting with Bakery Leadership. Knowing how to correctly describe, serve, and sell our menu items with enthusiasm, and communicate that information to the staff.
  • Work with the Coffee Training team to ensure consistency among all baristas at the café(s) on coffee, espresso, milk techniques, and brew methods; Function as in-house QA, ensuring that standards are met with every drink that goes out to customers.
  • Work at the direction of Leadership to update & maintain training documents, onboard new hires using the on-boarding checklist, ensuring their smooth and timely development towards bar certification.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Ensure café employees are delivering on our hospitality and quality standards to customers by directing and following up on tasks and assignments.
  • Support skill building for all cafe employees by providing honest, kind, and constructive feedback.
  • Work in conjunction with the Coffee Training team to ensure consistency among all baristas and forecast training needs.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between Bakery Leadership and the Front-of-House team regarding necessary updates and training.
Qualifications
  • 2 years Barista experience in a third wave coffee shop environment.
  • 2 years management/supervisory experience within the service, food industry or equivalent related experience and training in related industry.
  • Health department license, OLCC permit or other certifications as required by state or local requirements.
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, and Square.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced, ever changing work environment.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to hold self and others accountable to achieve goals and uphold commitments.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Passion and enthusiasm for cafe culture as well as a desire to educate others about our coffee and bakery items.
  • Great communication skills both with employees and customers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs (including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and as emergencies arise.)
  • Stamina and availability to work 32-45 hours per week.
Physical Demands
  • Standing and walking-must be able to work for 10+ hours, including ability to stand, sit, squat, or walk for extended periods of time, walk up and down stairs while carrying weight.
  • Performing repetitive motion with the hands, wrists and forearms to operate espresso machinery.
  • Tasting/Smelling - ability to detect and perceive coffee and food quality.
  • Talking/Listening - frequently communicates with customers and employees; must be able to speak at length and listen attentively.
  • Carry weight, lift, maneuver - lift, push, grasp, or carry up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally; able to maneuver in tight spaces.
Work Environment
  • Work is split between two cafes: Mix Bakeshop and ReMix Coffee Bar; travel between the two may be a daily occurrence.
  • The work environment can be loud, crowded, and cycle through various temperatures.
  • Interfacing with the public.
