Freelance Art Director

S50 is building our bench of freelance Art Directors who can think conceptually, work strategically, and execute beautifully across channels. We’re looking for folks who can bring big ideas to the table AND bring them to life with polish and precision.

This is about building long-term relationships, not filling one-off needs. We want trusted partners who can jump in quickly, understand the assignment, and help keep great work moving when the right opportunities come in.

We’re looking for two types of candidates: Art Directors with pharma or healthcare experience who understand the realities of regulated work AND Art Directors with strong consumer experience who know how to make brands feel culturally relevant.

S50 runs lean by design, so we move quickly, collaborate closely, and rely on partners who bring both speed and craft.

Responsibilities:

• Concept strong visual ideas across campaigns, pitches, social, digital, video, and print.
• Translate briefs into work that is strategically sound and visually compelling.
• Partner closely with writers, strategists, and account leads to make the work better.
• Bring a clear point of view while staying flexible enough to let the best idea win.
• Move quickly across workstreams without letting quality or accuracy slip.
• Build clean, organized files that teams can easily use.
• Present ideas clearly and connect creative decisions back to the strategy.
• Help raise the bar for what great looks like.

Requirements:

• Low ego about the process, high standards for the output. We don’t do brilliant jerks.
• 5+ years of experience
• Confident presenting creative work and connecting ideas back to strategy for both clients and internal stakeholders
• Pharma candidates: A strong understanding of regulated work.
• A portfolio that shows strategic thinking and polished execution.
• An obsession for detail. You can spot a typo a mile away.
• Ability to move fast, manage competing priorities, and stay calm under tight timelines.
• Expert-level Figma skills.
• Expert-level print design skills, including mechanicals, specs, production considerations, and file handoff.
• Fluency with AI tools for creative development, image generation, and team collaboration, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Midjourney.
