Sous Chef Position

The Berkshire Country Club is seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in food preparation and kitchen management, with experience in fine dining and catering. As a Sous Chef, you will assist the Executive Chef in overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring high-quality food production, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. Your leadership skills will be essential in managing kitchen staff and fostering a collaborative team atmosphere.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Executive Chef in menu planning and development, ensuring creativity and quality in all dishes served.
• Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and training to enhance their culinary skills and ensure adherence to food safety standards.
• Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation to maintain the highest standards of quality and consistency.
• Manage inventory control, including ordering supplies, tracking stock levels, and minimizing waste.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in food handling and kitchen operations.
• Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service during events and busy shifts.
• Participate in catering events as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in various settings.
• Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, ensuring all equipment is properly cleaned and stored after use.
• Assists in supervision of a la carte line and stewarding department.
• Assists or relieves the Sous Chef whenever reduced banquet volume allows.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Sous Chef or similar role within the food industry, preferably in fine dining or catering environments.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in team management and shift management.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for food handling.
• Excellent cooking skills with a passion for culinary arts and creativity in menu planning.
• Experience with inventory management and control processes to optimize kitchen efficiency.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members across departments.
• Previous experience in banquet service or restaurant management is highly desirable.
