The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury. The RN alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN acts as an advocate in the care of individuals and families. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delegating, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a group of patients. The RN serves as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated. Patient and family education in health promotion and disease management is a key responsibility. The RN utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology to safely administer medications. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. Compliance with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is essential. Active participation in Nursing Shared Governance Model is expected. Engagement in professional development and continuing nursing education is crucial. The RN integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice. Providing a supportive learning environment for new employees and students is encouraged. The RN may perform duties related to Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
