Role Description The Financial Aid Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based at Dorsey College in Saginaw, MI. This role is responsible for guiding prospective and current learners through the financial aid process, including explaining available programs, assisting with completing applications (such as FAFSA and institutional forms), and verifying documentation in accordance with regulations and institutional policies. The advisor will meet with learners and their support networks, provide individualized counseling on funding options and payment plans, and respond to questions via phone, email, and in-person meetings. Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, monitoring eligibility and award status, collaborating with admissions and student services teams, and helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines. The Financial Aid Advisor also participates in orientation events, workshops, and ongoing professional development to stay informed about changes in financial aid regulations and best practices. Qualifications Strong learner advising and customer service skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information clearly and support individuals from diverse backgrounds. Experience with financial aid processes or related areas, such as FAFSA completion, documentation review, eligibility verification, and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements. Proficiency with office software and data systems, including accurate data entry, recordkeeping, and basic reporting; comfort working with confidential information. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including active listening, professional writing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple cases, deadlines, and follow-up tasks while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to work on-site in Saginaw, MI, with consistent attendance and reliability, and to adapt to changes in policies or procedures. High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as business, counseling, or education) is preferred.
