Lead Engineer

Lead Engineer Location: National Agricultural Library, Beltsville, MD Employment Type: Full-time; contingent upon contract award Pay: $55.79 per hour, plus $10.00 fringe benefit Required Employment Language Must be authorized to work in the US. No relocation assistance is available. Four Seasons Environmental, Inc. is a federal contractor and is required to comply with the Drug‑Free Workplace Act of 1988, which supersedes state laws to include cannabis. Position Summary Provide working‑lead support for daily facilities operations and maintenance activities at the National Agricultural Library. The Lead Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer with assigning work, supporting technicians, maintaining building systems, and ensuring work is completed safely and accurately. Key Responsibilities Perform duties associated with the Lead Engineer position in accordance with contract requirements, FSE procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulations. Assist with daily coordination of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, service calls, inspections, and emergency response activities. Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building automation, and utility systems as assigned. Provide technical guidance to engineering, HVAC, and maintenance personnel when needed. Maintain accurate logs, reports, work order notes, equipment records, material usage records, and other required documentation. Communicate professionally with supervisors, team members, customer representatives, subcontractors, and facility personnel. Support emergency response, after‑hours work, weekend work, callbacks, or on‑call requirements when needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Relevant journey‑level experience in facilities operations and maintenance, building systems, mechanical systems, HVAC systems, or utility operations. Ability to provide working‑lead direction, technical support, and quality checks for assigned work. Ability to read, understand, and follow work orders, drawings, diagrams, O&M manuals, technical instructions, safety procedures, and site rules. Strong troubleshooting, communication, reliability, professionalism, customer service, and attention to detail. Ability to pass required background check, drug screening, badging, security, or site access requirements. Valid driver's license may be required for positions that operate company or site vehicles. Preferred Qualifications Prior lead or supervisory experience in facilities operations and maintenance. Experience working in federal, government, research, institutional, industrial, or commercial facilities. Stationary engineer, HVAC, boiler, or other applicable trade license or certification. Experience using CMMS, work order systems, safety programs, building automation systems, and formal maintenance documentation. Physical Requirements This position may require standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, lifting, carrying tools or materials, working in mechanical spaces, and performing duties indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. Specific requirements will depend on the final position assignment and worksite needs.
