Music Teacher

This is a Certified position.



Essential Information

The Elementary Music Teacher will teach general music classes to children ranging in age from kindergarten through sixth grade. May offer guidance in how to play instruments, such as the xylophone and drums, as well as provide instruction in reading music and singing. May direct a school band or choir, organize performances and maintain classroom instruments.

Job Duties

• Conduct general music classes
• Spend time introducing children to various musical performers and styles
• Assist students in learning about creating, performing and listening to music
• Provide students with basic vocal instruction and teach them about various instruments, including percussion, brass, woodwinds and string instruments
• Use hands-on activities to teach children pitch, rhythm and music notation
• Evaluate performance, grade tests and prepare lesson plans
• May be required to plan and direct school-wide performances and singalongs

Candidates will be licensed or able to obtain a Tennessee State Teaching License with the (429) Instrumental/General Music K-12 endorsement.
